Hi,

I found your forum while researching a fishing rod that I found in an historic barn that my family inherited. It has the following stamp on it "F.D. Divine, Maker, Utica, N.Y." The line underneath says "Pat. Dec. 1st 1885". Could you give me anymore information on it? I will take pictures and see if I can figure out how to post them.

The stamp is identical to the one on page 89 of this link https://books.google.com/books?id=zY8vsd9Q_BUC&pg=PA88&lpg=PA88&dq=f.d.+divine+maker+rod&source=bl&ots=JhhL4Cu053&sig=d3d8ZV8u0cIjh_mH32Ivbli98-M&hl=en&sa=X&ei=CCYlVar8H4SrsAWe-IHwCA&ved=0CB8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=f.d.%20divine%20maker%20rod&f=false

Thanks,
Sarah

Sorry have no info about it. Has to be about 80 years old. Beautifully preserved. Hope you find some info on it and welcome to the site!

Thanks for all your help. I have 2 collectors interested in it. Does anyone have a ballpark value for an avid collector?

If you have 2 collectors interested in it might be worth something. I checked on fleabay for old fly rods. some are selling for like 200 but no bites. Some are selling for 55 and have bids.
Why dont you tell the collectors you want 120 for the rod. See what they say, And then take counter offers and end up selling somewhere close to that. If I had something like that and could get close to 100 I would be happy. Can't imagine it is worth much more. Good luck and let us know how you make out

interesting stuff out there on Divine http://paducahmichael.u.yuku.com/

You will get over $100 and depending on what the collector's know you could push $200, perhaps more if one of them has a particular interest in that rod for their collection

For the rest of you, be assured bamboo fly rods attract a peculiar breed of folk in general, add collectors in there and anything can happen.

Remember that new custom bamboo fly rods can push $1000 from the right builder for the right buyer -DOH!

Fly fishing in general attracts folks with too much money and a shortage of brain cells, IMHO.

But I don't blame the flies for that :D
