I don't know a lot about mackerel but noticed something strange lately. The bluefish party boats have been getting mackerel every day. Only they don't call them bostons they call them chubs or thimble eyes.
What happened to the boston mackerel and why do you think these mackerel are here in the summer when the water is warmest? I always thought of mackerel as a cold water fish. thanks
Here is a pic of one of the chubs

Thanks for the quick response. So if the thimble eye has red meat does that mean its more bloody and oily like the false albacores? I absolutely hate mackerel it reminds me of cat food! Thinking those thimble eyes have to be at least a tad better for folks to be eating them. no? Sorry if it sounds stupid. I was thinking of going on a bluefish/mackerel trip and the memories of what the boston mackerel tasted like was keeping me away.
