(http://www.app.comA)A fisherman was hospitalized Monday after falling off the north jetty in the Manasquan Inlet, according to Dave Kircher, assistant chief for Manasquan Fire Department.

The fisherman apparently fell asleep. A friend went to wake him, startling him, and the fisherman fell six feet into the water, Kircher said.

The fisherman was able to get himself out of the water but couldn't climb up the rocks.
Manasquan Fire Department, Brielle Fire Department, and South Monmouth After-hours Rescue Team responded at about 7:10 p.m. They loaded him into a rescue basket and carried him along the jetty, back to land.

He was taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune, with non-life threatening injuries, Kircher said.
Authorities cleared the scene at about 8:45 p.m.

Don't know what it is but that jetty attracts folks who are not firing on all cylinders. The jacks in front are slippery as hell. That's where he must have been sleeping. If so he is lucky he didn't get a concussion when he fell in. Thankfully he is safe. Every year someone does a boneheaded stunt off the jetties and has to be rescued.

Remember reading about quite a few falls on those rocks over the years. Those Jacks were designed to minimize waves and severe storms.
Fishing and walking on them was a secondary thought. I agree they are very slippery.

Glad to hear he got rescued ok. That other thing that comes to mind is the ski doo guy who crashed into the jetty during the last noreaster. I think the coast guard had to rescue him as well.
