Thanks for posting that was pretty cool. Some of the old hamburger joints were the best. Gone forever.

Lot of those places where a big part of my "younger years".
Used to hitch hike about 5 miles to get to the Playboy Club up in Vernon :).
And every summer had a trip to Bertrands Island.
Times have changed big time.
I think we were lucky back then, a lot more independence as a "kid" with more stuff to do.
We used to get together and play baseball, wiffle ball, Hockey, basketball and football all the time, not in organized leagues. I just don't see that happening much these days. We had leagues and played in them, but most of the fun was the "unorganized" games.

Jims Burger Haven Hazlet - closed Oct 21 2009. Lots of history there, greasy and slightly dirty. Run by Jim and his family, now an autozone.

In the last 2 posts the signery looks similar. Was the Jim's burger haven an old Burger Chef that was converted?

I believe you are right. I live in the area. Word was he was an cook at the Burger Barn and bought it when they closed that location. Then Auto Zone made him and offer he couldn't refuse and he retired. I really miss them.

I vividly remember the last time I ate there and finding hair in the burger.

Miss them too. True old style greasy spoon.I ate there a few times. Not the best in cleanliness that comes with the territory. The atmosphere was worth it though. Not too many places left like it. As for the hair in the burger I don't think they always wore hair nets at the grill.:)

Anyone old enough to remember palisades park rides and amusements? My two uncles talk about it all the time.

You're welcome. Even though I don't fly fish, Bob P is a great guy. Wealth of knowledge, and always a good time when you run into him.

It's a shame how some of these places are disappearing. Sometimes older IS really the best.
