I saw that other thread about the 38 pounder and didn't know if it was real cause posted on April 1. Thought we could have a thread about some big fish caught. For example this one came from the back bays of lbi. Didn't see a pic of it so it cold have been a april fools joke you never know. Just thought if it is true it would be a beautiful catch for the first week of april.

"On Easter's report we mentioned word from the west side was good. The proof is in the pudding! Just a couple days ago Bob Bott tagged and released a trophy 40, possibly 50+ pound bass. Don't go chase the report, 1000+ others are already on that train. Just goes to show the fish are here in Jersey. You just have to put the time in and find them."

:thumbsup:I think finchaser is more accurate than some of the reports out there.
Where the heck do you get your info sir.
The reason I ask is when you report it seems on the $$. Some of these other reports out there are so hyped up it's unreal.

this is a follow up to that report.
word from Joe Schaedel with some details about Bob Bott's bass which we reported on April 1st..." Just to give you a heads up. Bob Bott's fish was 45" long with a 35" girth. The formula came out 68.9 pounds. The fish bottomed out a 60 pound Boga!" For those not aware of the formula it's length times girth squared divided by 800. It is a widely used catch and release weight calculation formula which is surprisingly accurate.
This is why I would more likely believe a report posted here and not something from the guy who posted above.
I have seen quite a few 50's in my time. Never in my life have I seen a 45 inch fish that was even close to 60 lbs. The guy writing the report I quoted is delusional. The fish might have been fat, a 35 inch girth is a very fat fish. But 68 lbs? No way, Jose.:kooky:

Agreed. Looks like you beat me to the post. To claim that a 45" striper is even close to 68 pounds says a lot about the reporter's credibility. Maybe he was smoking some wacky tobaccy. I want some of it, whatever it was. Isn't that the guy who smokes pot a lot?

I agree. Have never seen or heard of a 45 inch fish that was 68#. Stating that just makes the person who said it look silly.

sounds like someone can't read a scale or is full of it.I had a 48" fish years ago that was 41 lbs. far cry from a 68.

I have not heard of any large being caught in my parts but, I also never see any pix of any fish.
pix tell all and that's what I want to see.
I guess it must be very different down in N.J. and local area.
I wonder why really.

My thoughts- pic of big fish on a jetty- only a few jetties left in nj. Pic with pier in background, every one knows and will go running and crowd it. Same qwith bridge pics. Even certain types of concrete we can tell where caught with a pic of fish laying on it. Half of these internet a-holes will go running to a spot the next night when a big fish pic is posted. That's why a lot of us stopped posting pics. My .02

Tony Arcabascio's Tony Maja bunker spoon struck again with the first big striper taken out of Barnegat Inlet. Dan De Pasquale (16) was trolling the green #4 with his father when the 42-pounder hit in rough and dirty 50-foot waters off the bathing beach at Island Beach State Park on Saturday. Arcabascio says that the big bass are just starting to show up in that area.

Some more from the Captain Al ristori report.
showing up in about 50-foot depths off the bathing beach. Dan DePasquale (16) boated a 42-pounder there on Saturday while trolling a Tony Maja #4 green bunker spoon with his father in rough seas. That bass was exceeded Wednesday by another youngster as Dave Armstrong boated his first striper on a white #4 Tony Maja spoon – and it was a 49-incher that weighed 48 pounds.

50# striper caught.
Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, reported the first 50-pound striper of the year. It was boated on a live bunker on Capt. Eric Kerber's On A Mission by Nick Alfonse of Hamilton. Three bass were taken while fishing bunker schools close to shore off Ocean County.

A few more 50 pounders were caught in the last 2 weeks. One snag and drop and the other one I believe on a Tony maja bunker spoon. Off of Seaside.

some big striped bass trolled right now - from Capt Al Ristoris blog at nj.com
Tony Arcabascio of Bayville proudly reported the biggest striper ever caught on his Tony Maja bunker spoons as Sal Mineo trolled the #4 multi-color model to boat a 61.42-pounder out of Barnegat Inlet. I'll have more details in an upcoming blog.*
Though it wasn't quite as large, Capt. Howard Bogan is excited about the 57 3/16-pound striper caught Tuesday evening by Alice Omichi on the Jamaica from Brielle as it was the largest ever caught on that vessel. Better yet, it broke up a night when the bass never turned on -- and only two others were boated.
