Save Money - Make Ice

Are any other of you guys making your own ice to save money?

I have a plastic tupperware rectangular wash container, about 3 gals, that fits perfectly in my freezer. Sides are beveled outward to make it easier to get the ice out when done. I like the blocks because they last longer.

I fill gallon milk containers after they are rinsed out. Lasts a long time in the 110gt coolers of a big fishbox on a boat.

I use 2 lit soda bottles, mix wit water n kool ade, drink when they melt.:thumbsup:

I use cardboard boxes, have to be strong, line inside with bag, fill with water for block ice. If I'm taking the kayak out, I use a smaller cooler, frozen small water bottles.

5 gallon spackle buckets, put in chest freezer, good ta go.

I have a 110 qt cooler, and some "busboy" plastic dish carriers left over when a friend's restaurant went bust. Freeze the water filled tub in a big freezer, dump the blocks out when done, each block is 10lbs or more, lasts forever.

Sure all the time. I use gallon size plastic bags. Fill half with premade ice from the frig. then add water and freeze. Perfect for small coolers or large coolers.

Half gal milk cartons. We use a lot, just rinse and cut the top off, you can also freeze fillets in these cartons if you have fish that loses its tast quickly. I rinse fillets in seawater, try to never use fresh water, and put in cartons wrapped in plastic bags. Keeps its taste for a long time.

I do this when making block ice as well. Cheapest way to get a big chunk, unless your family is in the business.:)

When I was younger, had a buddy who worked for an ocean fish shipping processor. At 5pm, they would give us all the ice we could carry, enough to fish all night.
