You're absolutely correct about that, rockhopper. A boat is a hole in the water that you just throw money into! ;) I will try to answer at length when I get some time, but basically there is a whole category of other costs, from slip fees, if you are not trailering, to maintenance, repair, upgrades, etc.

Figure on spending at least 1% of the original cost of the boat each year to maintain it IF you are handy, more if you are not. I'll try to answer in more detail later.
