Wanted to put out some info about the jellyfish around now, used to be we were told to urinate on ourselves to get rid of the pain from a jellyfish sting. Thar's worked well for years, but now my wife brings a diluted ammonia spray bottle to the beach when the jellyfish are thick, less embarassing than the pee thing.

So what are some of the other home remedies you sharpies :) are using, from jellyfish stings, to insect bites, to poison ivy?

clamchucker, I remember being told to pee on yourself if we got stung, never tried it.:D

Poison Ivy - if you ever get it, try any drying agent, don't necessarily need calamine, can use benzoyl peroxide.

This came from guppies site. Don't know how you feel about promoting other sites here, You can delete this if it's against policy, joe. Just wanted to say she is a good voice for Ibsp reports, a few people (one tackle shop guy, shop close to the park) have an agenda against her, because she tells the truth. That one tackle shop exaggerates the reports, shame on him.:beatin: rant over.

I also heard the best remedy for jellyfish is a spray bottle of ammonia.

I didn't get one yet this year, but they are out there, be careful. cow noses are pretty harmless, its the other ones that are bad:

Stingrays

(Potentially serious injury)

Stingrays, Skates and Rajiformes are cartilagenous fish related to sharks. As bottom feeders hiding in the sand, they may be stepped on by the people while wading in shallow water. Stingrays posses a long tail with a venemous barb at the end. If a ray is stepped on, it will flail its tail around vigorously. T he sharp barbed tail can result in considerable damage to the hapless reef walker. The venom in the barb affects the cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels) and can even cause irregular heart rhythms and in some cases cause the heart to stop beating all together!

Symptoms of Stingray venom injury
· The barbed tail itself can do considerable damage and there may be significant bleeding (hemorrhage).
Pain at the site of injury is immediate and intensifies over 30-90 minutes. and will gradually subside over the next 6-48 hours depending on the amount of venom delivered.
· The venom from the barbed tail affects the cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels), causing both peripheral vasoconstriction (blanched white extremities) or dilatation (beefy red extremities).
· The venom may also cause arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) or even asystole (the heart may stop beating altogether).
· The venom can act on respiratory centers in the brain and cause a slowing of respiration.
· Convulsion may develop from the venom's effect on other brain center.
Treatment of Skin injuries from Stingrays.
1. SEEK PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION! --The venom of stingrays can affect both repiration and heart rate. Intravenous medication may be necessary to maintain heart rate, and if respiration is slow enough, mechanical ventilation may be required!
2. The wound should be well irrigated with saline solution.
3. Stingray venom is destroyed by heat, and it is advisable to soak the affected extremity in hot water (120°F) for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
4. Intravenous calcium gluconate may be required to prevent muscle spasms.
5. Local infiltration of the wound with lidocaine may be required for pain relief, as well as meperidine or some other narcotic analgesic.
6. Surgical debridment (removal of dead tissue) may be necessary if the wound is severe. The patient should be given tetanous toxoid and antibiotics to prevent secondary infection.

The vinegar and water also works for mosquitoes and no see ums. Mix up a spray bottle with vinegar:water in a 1:5 ratio. Spray on you when going into the marsh or bay areas. Re-spray whenever it wears off. try it.

General wart removal - take duct tape and wrap it on the wart. Take off after a few days, and re-apply. Eventually it wears the wart down. Best used on areas conducive to band aids, like fingers and toes.

When I was in high school, some womens mag talked about the rumor that semen was good for female skin tone. Can't tell you how many times I tried to use that line on my latest girlfriend back then. :D

When I was a kid my mother used to take the end of a spoon and feed us and very small amount maybe 1/4 tsp of vicks. It ends up being an old wifes tale. DO NOT TRY THIS.

However, there was always relief from coughing and nasal congenstion when she rubbbed it on our chests.

HEART ATTACK ~ THE NEW ASPIRIN

IMPORTANT READ.......

Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep aspirin by your bedside?

About Heart Attacks:

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left
arm.

One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack
during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest
pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards:

- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins..
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their
arrival and...
~do NOT lie down ~

A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after receiving this
e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life can be saved!

I have already shared the information- - What about you?

How to get rid of bot flies.
Have any of you taken a trip to S America lately? Got a pesky bump on your head that has things moving inside it? Maybe you are a host to a bot fly. Old fashioned ways of removing these are to smoke them out or to put tape over the hole, suffocating them. MMM, mmm, delish!:plastered: :upck:

The girl in this video is annoying, she is some kind of nature girl. Skip to the money shot at 3:20. Looks just like a strand of spaghetti.
