Hillsville Man Lands 25-Pound Catfish

ALLISONIA, Va. -- A Hillsville man had quite a time reeling in a 25-pound catfish Saturday evening while he was fishing on the New River in Allisonia, Va. Scottie Thurman was fishing at his parents' summer home on the river around 10:30 p.m. when he hooked the 40-inch-long fish.
Thurman said he knew it was a whopper as soon as it bit on his bait. It took him 25 minutes to reel it in. He said that according to Virginia regulations, the fish would win him a Citation Award. The largest catfish caught in Virginia was a blue catfish caught on the James River in 2006. That fish weighed in at 95 pounds, 11 ounces.
