Beaver River Fishing Access To Honor Slain Soldier
August 7, 2008
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Sgt. Allan Bevington lived to fish. He left his rod and reel at home to go to Iraq -- but he never made it back. A new memorial along the Beaver River will remind everyone of the Beaver Falls soldier, who was killed two years ago by a roadside bomb. "He used to write to me, every place he was at in Germany and Iraq, and say there's no place to fish," said Bevington's brother, Chuck.
The Bevingtons and friends are building a fishing access along the river in Allan Bevington's honor. There will be a parking lot large enough for 14 trailers, a boat ramp and maybe a bike trail, as well as a plaque honoring the fallen soldier. "One of the things that all of us used to do when we were growing up was fish. It was the one thing that kept us out of trouble," said Chuck Bevington.
