EAST CHICAGO, Ind., Aug. 15 (UPI) --
A 4-year-old boy was left stranded on a speeding fishing boat in East Chicago, Ind., after his parents were thrown overboard, police say.
Gary Marine Unit Patrolman Phillip Cook said the child was found all alone on the speeding boat this week after officers investigated a possible reckless boater near the city's marina, the Gary Post-Tribune said Wednesday.
Cook said it appeared when the child's father and mother were thrown off the boat due to the wake from a larger boat Tuesday. The father accidentally hit their boat's steering wheel causing the speedboat to begin turning in circles at full throttle, the officer said.
Cook told the Post-Tribune that after repeated attempts to stop the boat failed, the vehicle's propeller hit some nearby rocks and stopped.
"It killed the motor," Cook said of the impact, adding that the child was not injured in the incident
