Cowherder, you will notice I have edited the title of your thread. I thought it would be easier when searching the database if we had some common search terms:

How To.....
How I did it....
How to Fish....
Compare and Contrast...

I'm trying to make this place not only a fun place to check out, but also a good, efficient library of information.

If you or other members can use these prefaces when starting a thread of that nature, it would help all of us down the road. I certainly appreciate it.

If you forget, I'll be glad to edit for you. :HappyWave:

I wanted you to be aware that I usually don't edit threads unless there is something obscene in there, but in this case I thought it made sense.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions at all to make this place more streamlined or more efficient to find info you're looking for, I'm all ears.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation.

Recently lost a good plug, Im using the improved clinch knot. Anyone got any better knots or suggestions?

Folks, I updated this title to more efficiently allow for searches of our database. Whenever you start a thread where you are addressing the beginners out there or looking for information helpful to the beginners, please try to follow this format in your title if feasible.

Internet searching is frustrating when you get 10 pages of info on one topic -- and 9 of those pages are useless or contain scant info. I am trying to eliminate that here, and allow our members to search our growing database with less aggravation. Whomever has other ideas for topics and outlines to help simplify our searches, feel free to contact me. Thank you. bunkerjoe :)

I have about 300 yards of 65lb and 50lb braids. Is is possible to join them together or is it not worth the risk of the knots not holding?

Uni Knot

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/uni_knot1.gif1. Run line through eye of hook, swivel or lure at least 6″ and fold to make two parallel lines. Bring end of line back in a circle toward hook or lure.

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/uni_knot2.gif2. Make six turns with tag around the double line and through the circle. Hold double line at point where it passes through eye and pull tag to snug up turns.

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/uni_knot3.gif3. Now pull standing line to slide knot up against eye.

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/uni_knot4.gif4. Continue pulling until knot is tight. Trim tag end flush with coils of knot. Uni-knot will not slip.

Palomar if using braid Ilike to apply a small dab of crazy glue or zap a gap to whatever knot I use.

Surgeon's Knot

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/surgeons_knot1.gifLay line and leader parallel, overlapping 6″ to 8″.
http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/surgeons_knot2.gif

Treating the two like a single line, tie an overhand knot, pulling the entire leader through the loop.
http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/surgeons_knot3.gif

Leaving the loop of the overhand open, pull both tag end of line and leader through again.

Braid to swivel, Palomar. Swivel to leader, improved clinch. And I attzch my plugs with a loop knot. I've been doing it this way for many years, and it works for me.:)

Perfection Loop

1. Double the end of the leader belly forming a loop about 6 inches long. Form a smaller loop about 2-inches from the end of the leader belly so that the smaller loop is behind the doubled line.

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/perfection_loop_knot2.gif2.With the larger loop, make a wrap around the smaller loop and pass the end of the larger loop through the smaller one. http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/perfection_loop_knot3.gif3. Wet the knot area and firmly pull the larger loop. Be sure the wraps tighten evenly. Trim excess. http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/perfection_loop_knot4.gif4. To connect the perfection loops, pass the tippet loop over the leader belly loop, then pass the fly through the leader belly loop.

Palomar knot

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/palomar_knot1.gif1. Double about 4″ to 5″ of line and pass loop through eye. http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/palomar_knot2.gif

2. Let hook hang loose and tie overhand knot in doubled line. Avoid twisting the lines and don’t tighten knot.
http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/palomar_knot3.gif

3. Pull loop of line far enough to pass it over hook, swivel or lure. Make sure loop passes completely over this attachment.

http://laterallineco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/palomar_knot4.gif4. Pull both tag end and standing line to tighten. Clip about 1/8″.

IMO I wouldn't take the risk. All I would need is one monster bass and lose it because my knots were off.

Uni to uni even holds up to tuna no different than attaching a leader or top shot to braid. Tied right no bass will pop that have had tuna to 150# no problem.

I was adding some braid to my mono backing and I was having trouble with the knots. I got so :burn: up that I wanted to toss the set up into the garbage. Problem was that every time I tied it then pulled to test, it came right apart. I finally used a reverse albright from the power pro directions.

What is the knot you guys use to tie braid to mono?

Agree with the above. Here are some other knot illustrations.

Fishing Knots for Dummies

There are several different type of fishing knots you can use, there are two types of fishing knots that are the best.

Palomer Fishing Knot:

The Palomar Knot is easy to tie correctly, and consistently the strongest knot known to hold terminal tackle.

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1819/3416/320/step1palomar.png (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1819/3416/1600/step1palomar.0.gif)
1. Double about 5" of line and pass the loop through the eye of fishing hook.
2. Tie a standard over the hand knot in the double line. Try not to twist the fishing line too much.
3. Take the Loop End and pass it over the hook.
4. Tighten the line, by pulling both ends of the knots. You want to keep the line wet when you tighten it. This will keep the line from weakening do to the friction.

Your done, make sure that the eye of the hook is not caught up in the knot, it happens, and you can loose a good fish. There you go, thats all it takes to tie one of the best fishing knots there are. I like this fishing knot, because once you do it enough, you can do it with little light.

Trilene Fishing Knot aka the Clinch Knot

</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1819/3416/320/trileneknot.0.png (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1819/3416/1600/trileneknot.0.gif)
The Trilene Knot is a strong knot that can be used to join line to swivels, snaps, hooks and lures. The Trilene Knot is fairly easy to learn and is a very strong knot that resists slippageDirections for tying the Trilene Knot

Thread the line through the eye of the hook or lure and double back through the eye a second time.
Holding the hook or lure in your left hand, and the standing line in your right hand, loop the tag end around the standing line 6 times. Then feed the tag end through the loop made in step 1.
Tighten the knot by pulling gently on the tag end and the standing line simultaneously. Moisten the knot with water as you tighten to lubricate the line, allowing the knot to slide more easily while tightening. Trim tag end to 1/8 inch.
Tying the Trilene Knot is complete.
