TALENTED Tredegar 14-year-old Joel Wogan has handed out another match fishing lesson to his elders and this time he was backed up by another 14-year-old from the town, Ryan Leddington.
The pair finished first and second in the Saturday Open at Redhill Fishery, Monmouth.

Joel fished close in with paste on the hook to catch 75lb 6oz of carp and Ryan used the same approach for 71lb 6oz.
Chris Shephard was third with 65lb 10oz.

Earlier in the week, Shephard had won the Wednesday match with 119lb 10oz ahead of Alan Davies, from Trealaw, with 112lb 12oz and Caerphilly competitor Lyn Jones who weighed in 108lb.
Things were much slower in the Sunday Open where 45lb of carp taken by Cwmbran angler Neil Anstice won the day.

Clive Matthews took second prize with 32lb 2oz while Chris Shephard was in the money again in third place with 29lb 8oz.
The River Wye near Builth Wells was carrying extra water when Birchgrove (Cardiff) AS fished the club competition and conditions certainly cut the catches as all Clive Hill needed to win was 12lb 4oz.

He managed to find an area of sheltered water and coaxed out 31 dace, five grayling and a bonus eel weighing 1.5lb.
Bob Wright had a 2.5lb eel in his runner-up catch of 8lb 8oz and John Davies was third with 6lb 8oz of dace.

The Birchgrove club hold the Taff Cup match on the river on Sunday, so visitors to the water will find some areas taken up for the competition.
The conditions also slowed things down when the Butchers Hook AC match was held at Grange Springs Fishery, Trellech.

Matt Peters drew a peg on Kingfisher Lake where pole fished pellets put a winning 38lb 8oz of carp, bream and tench in his net; Simon Glover was close with 37lb and Barry Smith third with 20lb.
Wind and rain gave Merthyr Tydfil AA members a nightmare match at Dolygaer Reservoir and all Phil Jones needed to win the soaking session was 2lb 1oz of small bream on feeder and maggots.
Runner-up Geoff Richards managed 1lb 1oz and Bernard Farr was third with just eight ounces.

The Aberglais match at White Springs was also battered by the weather, but Merthyr’s Terry Jones did manage 36lb 8oz of Match Lake carp and bream to win from David Matthews with 30lb 9oz and Colin Rees just three ounces behind him in third place.
After club stretches of the canal had been drained without Pontymister AC being informed, there was some emergency weeding done to clear enough swims for the match to go ahead at Risca.

Local angler Pete Williams cashed in on his local knowledge by catching a good crucian and enough roach to give him a winning 5lb 3oz.

Teenager Johnathon Cooper kept up his good run with a second-placed 4lb 7oz as did consistent Paul Clarke in third place with 4lb.
The junior match fished in conjunction was won by Lewis Smith, who caught 3lb 7oz of roach.

Jordan Smith finished second with 1lb 12oz while Chloe Walters and Josh Hawkins tied for third place with 13oz.
