I know tiny ones are snappers, once above 12" they are cocktails, and around 15-17lbs they are gators or gorillas.
So who's got the original listings, and the "official" size designations? :D

Don't think theres an official listing anywhere, and it probably changes from each state you go into. Here's my breakdown:
snapper - few oz, maybe 1#
cocktail/tailor - 1 to 3#
chopper - 3 to 10#
gator/slammer - 10 to 15#
gorilla - anything over 15#

Seems pretty accurate to me, up here we use tailor more than cocktail.

I think some of them are radioactive, there should be a new category called godzilla size.

Last year I found a load of gator size blues, had them to myself. I was not equiped for them as my plugs had treble tail hooks and the pliers I had were to weak/small. I caught and released around 10 and walked back to my jeep past around 50 people fishing who had caught a few fluke. I looked like I had chopped someone up as I had a good deal of blood spattered on me (got some weird looks). Next week new pliers, single tail hooks/barbless and still more gators made for a much better fishing experience. First week the gators won as I was pretty beat up (they taught me a lesson on proper equipment). .
