Entire Maine coast closed to shellfish harvesting
PORTLAND, Maine — State officials have banned shellfish harvesting along the entire Maine coast because of concerns about bacterial runoff from the heavy rains of recent days.
The Department of Marine Resources’ ban covers, clams, quahogs, mussels and oysters from New Hampshire to Canada.
The closure became effective Saturday evening as a pre-emptive measure because of the weekend’s heavy rains.
