SANDY HOOK — It took about 30 firefighters more than two hours to extinguish a blaze on a fishing boat that came ashore at Gunnison Beach on the north end of Sandy Hook.
The fire on the 32-foot fishing boat was reported around 2 p.m. Sunday, but because the boat was about 2,500 feet from the nearest roadway and water supply, firefighters had to call in trucks that carry water and are equipped with pumps, according to Patrick S. Mason Jr. of the Sea Bright Fire Department. They also used portable foam units to fight the fire.

It took about an hour to bring the fire under control and a little more than two hours to extinguish it.

Firefighters from Sea Bright, Highlands, Sandy Hook, and Middletown were among those called to the scene. EMS units from Sea Bright and Highlands also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard, Sandy Hook Park Rangers and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office.
