My cousin and I are fighting over if water temperature when bass are caught effects the taste of the fish. I told him no. However, some claim if you bleed the fish that changes the taste. Any thoughts?

People do it for bluefish, bass should be the same. The one thing I noticed is that bass taste better to me when caught in the cold water months, as opposed to the summer.

One of the guys who taught me a lot said he only takes keepers in the Spring, when the water is colder. He catches and releases about 1000 keepers/ year, I gotta think he knows a few things. I also fish with some Spanish and Portuguese guys sometimes who bleed every bluefish and bass keeper they catch, they swear by it.

I always thought bass tasted better when the water was colder. I thought it was my imagination.
