What other fish do you go for when not fishing for striped bass and bluefish? We used to fish for carp in the winter with bagels soaked in honey. Anything else you guys are targeting?

I used to fish with this very old, wise man from derby,Ct. for sturgeon in the housatonic.
believe it or not there are some HUGE fish in there, some he hooked would dump a daiwa BG-90 full of 40 ande!
slow & powerful,like a tractor.
as for me,hooked several but landed only 3 in 2 years.
our bait was whole tomatoe, peeled so the scent would get out.
one the old guy caught[while I was there] was 8 feet and some inches long.
he fought it for an hour 12 minutes.
I flipped out when I saw that beast!

Whole tomato, are you sure you aren't feeding us a Christmas gravy story? ;) OK so how did he keep that tomato on the hook? Fishing in the Housy, was it from a bridge or the shoreline? I would love to get something that big from a river. :scared:

Cod fishing has been pretty good lately out of shinnecock and montauk. Thinking of a trip.
