There seems to be more and more schools offering fishing clubs. It teaches them how to work together, techniques, proper use of equipment, how to catch and release. It gives them the opportunity to be part of tournaments with their own peers. Safety is stressed when out on the water. They are accompanied by experienced anglers, who measures and weighs the fish.

The winner of the tournaments are required to tell their classmates at that the next club meeting, what bait, and lure was used. They also tell the technique, that way everyone can learn.

I think this is a great idea. We had a thread here about passing the knowledge of fishing on to our kids. This is one way in which it is being accomplished. In my opinion it helps bring those who do not have to opportunity to go fishing the chance to enjoy a great sport.

buckethead, I agree with you. Glad to hear about this. Get some young ones out there that have never been exposed to fishing. Who know's where it might lead them.

This is a great program. I wish more schools would have them.
