Va offers 'free fishing' 1st June weekend
By the Associated Press May 15, 2009NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Fishing in Virginia waters won't require a license during the first weekend in June.
The Virginia Marine Resources Commission (http://www.dailypress.com/topic/environmental-issues/water/virginia-marine-resources-commission-ORGOV0000124.topic) and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said Thursday that June 5-7 will be free fishing days in the state. No license will be required for recreational rod and reel fishing, except for a special trout license in designated stocked trout waters.
All other regulations, include size and catch limits, will remain in effect.
A Virginia saltwater fishing license regularly costs $12.50 a year for state residents. Freshwater fishing and trout licenses are $18 each.
