National Fishing and Boating Week, June 6-14

AP May 18

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation wants you to take a kid fishing during National Fishing and Boating Week, June 6-14.
The week includes hundreds of free fishing days around the country with organized activities and free equipment and instruction. For example, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is sponsoring kids' fishing clinics; various parks, ponds and hatcheries around Oregon are hosting free fishing events the weekend of June 6, and New Jersey also has free fishing days June 6-7, including a kids' fishing derby in Mount Holly and Piscataway.
Links to other fishing events around the country can be found at http://www.takemefishing.org (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/ap_travel/ap_tr_ge/storytext/travel_brief_fishing_week/32058884/SIG=10ubd9ojh/*http://www.takemefishing.org). The Web site also lists places to fish (sortable by interest, like family hotspots, urban fishing, freshwater, etc.), where to get a license, fishing with your family, a "little lunkers" section for how to get kids interested in the sport, and even a social network for more seasoned anglers looking to swap advice and stories.
Fishing is also a good way to get kids to put down their gadgets and get back to nature, and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation says that when you buy a fishing license or equipment, part of that money goes back into a pool to protect local waterways and fisheries.

That's a good reminder about NJ free fishing days 6/6 and 6/7. There are a lot of kids nowadays who are addicted to those electronics. Getting them out for a day or 2 is good for them. Who knows, they might even catch something.:D

It is a great time to get the kids out. You can share the experience with kids who have never gone fishing before. The outdoors, the feel of that fish latching on and running off. Nothing beats it. The kids will love you forever.
