Line cleaners

I came across an older fly reel of my uncle's with the line still on it. It looks in good shape just dirty. Is it worth it to clean the line with a cleaner? How do you clean your lines?

I just let the flyline soak in the kitchen sink with dishwasher soap. then wipe it dry with paper towel pulling the line thru the paper towel. I have been doing that for years with good results.

Soap and water works just as good as line cleaner. I have a buddy who uses a cleaner, I tell him not to waste his money.
