It was time for the trip to blow off the beginning of the summer doldrums. Met up with Mick2360 and Paumanok, fished it hard.

Not much fish-wise to speak of, but we all had a blast and met some cool people. The couple from Toronto.... :HappyWave: Guy is a freshwater fishing nut, and I tried to explain our striper addiction to him as his wife took pics. He was all ears, and it was good to talk about my freshwater fishin roots with someone who loves to fish as well.

The "Nomads" :HappyWave: another couple who are living their dream in a converted Dodge Sprinter van and travelling the country.

The tourists from all over, a few regular Montauk fishermen, and....

2 maniac surfcasters from NJ we met in the parking lot! :HappyWave:

In all, a great trip and time on the water!

Everytime ya go to mecca, ya gotta kiss Debbie for good luck. If ya don't catch any fish on your trip, ask yourself if ya kissed Debbie? ;)

The rock near the top of the 2nd pic is one of the flattest ones there, becoming one of my favorite rocks. I carved my initials in it and dripped blood on it to seal the deal. It's now available for rental for a small fee. If I ain't there standing on it, feel free to use it as my guest, no charge. :kooky:

I went to work the rocks for the incoming. SE wind was stirring up the ocean a bit and the tide rose quickly. Took a few headers directly in front of the lighthouse, where I worked swimmers and bucktails. No action as the night tide started to fill in. Decided to climb back to the sand for awhile

Monday's report:

Met up with Mick and Paumanok. Friends we met earlier worked all day for one or 2 dropped fish, but we were there to try, and try we did. Started working the outgoing in the late afternoon. There were birds working bait about 500' offshore. Bait was small, no fish breaking the surface, maybe small bass under them. However it was tough, even fly guys in boats drifting by them did not hook up.

Unfortunately they stayed too far out, but we tried anyway. As it got dark Will and Mick worked the fly rods, and Mick eventually switched over to a spinning rod and rubber and bucktails. Will continued to work the flys, switching to a sinking line, to no avail.

Around dusk I had one missed small bluefish on the pink Ace spook. I don't think he was that hungry, he came out of the water sideways and missed. I think it was an anger strike rather than one out of hunger, because that was it for the evening. Tried swimmers and bucktails into the night, nothing doing.

I got a little surprise when a wave washed something in. Thought it was a big log. I was busy fishin, so I moved my legs apart so it could pass through. I jumped a little as it started moving between my legs. It was a medium size skate, first time that ever happened.

We didn't bring in any fish, though in the morning a guy got a 22# bluefish on a pencil. I would never turn down a 22# bluefish, must have had a head like a basketball. nice catch! :clapping:

We all had a great time, good times with good friends.
