Some friends took the ride to Sayville to check out the fishing at the town dock there. They did their research ahead of time, called the town clerk's office, and was told there are no fishing restrictions at night after 11pm. They went fishing about 4am, were quiet, respectful, and weren't bothering anyone.
About 1/2 hour after they got there, a security guard came by and said there was no night fishing. Any people who can help shed some light on this, your comments would be appreciated, in the original Public Trust Sayville LI Access thread, here.
