lets talk snap swivels and connecting tackle

Can anyone tell me how to determine the size of snaps or swivels ? What type of measurement is used. Every time I buy them I forget which ones I bought before!

Mike, a lot depends on what you're fishing for and how durable you want them to be. A good rule of thumb is the larger the swivel, the smaller the number. I like good quality ball bearing swivels, such as sampo or similar ones.

No.1 - 37kg to 60kg Tackle
No.2 - 24kg to 37kg Tackle
No.3 - 15kg to 24kg Tackle
No.4 - 6kg to 10kg Tackle
No.5 - 3kg to 8kg Tackle

So what kind of snap swivels are you guys using, and why? Coast lock,duo lock, which ones do you think are the best. And are there any other ways beside direct tying the plug or baithook?

I keep them in plastic bags at the bottom of my surf bag. I am looking for something a little simpler. What do you guys put them in? Any ideas or should I keep to the plastic?

Pre-tie leaders at home and theres no need to carry them. If not the small Plano waterproof box

I put them in prescription drug bottles. I also have a few pretied, and keep them in ziplock bag.

Pretied in a zip lock and stuffed in the surfbag. One ziplock with a few snaps (Breakaway clips).

Don't use snap swivels anymore since I've found Break-Aways and Tactical Angler clips. I just have a small bag of barrel swivels in the pocket of my surf bag. I run the strap of my surf bag through the spool of leader material with about 3 inches exposed. If I have a break-off I tie my barrel swivel on, pull some leader material off and tie it to the barrel swivel, clip it a couple inches from the spool, tie my clip on and keep fishing. Less than 2 minutes from start to finish.

I just carry a leader wallet w/ all my leaders pretied and mark the pocket for what lb. test they are.That way my wire,fluoro and plug/teaser leaders and a few bait rigs are all separated.One pocket is used for spare terminal tackle split rings,barrel swivels etc.

I pre-tie all my leaders and put them in 2"x4" ziploc bags I got from the craft store. I write the pound test on each one then throw a handful in a regular ziploc and stuff it into my surfbag or a pocket if I have one.
