The windy city. Beautiful place, but try not to drive through there at rush hour.

One of the nicest things about the Midwest is the hospitality of the people there. Waaaay different than the East Coast, that's fer shure (Minnesota speak :D)
We stopped at this place on I-90 in Wisconsin called Quik Trip for gas, and ended up eating at the Hearty Platter restaurant attached to it.
Where in NJ or NY do you get a buffet with hot food, soup, salad, and a piece of cake for dessert, all for $7.99? You don't, have to come to the Midwest and eat where the truckers eat. Delicious home-cooked food. Only thing about the Midwest is I don't think dieting is a big thing out here, everyone likes to eat hearty meals! ;)

They say the Mississippi headwaters begin in Minnesota. When you first come to the river along the highway, it's awesome to see the power and size of this river. The islands, holes, cuts, and eddies are a walleye and smallmouth fisherman's dream. :dribble:

The ethanol plant. This shows you the ecomomic downturn has hit a lot of places. The old owners put millions of $$ into this plant and went bankrupt. It was closed down for awhile. Now it's going to re-open soon, with new owners, according to local news.

Trains are a big part of Midwestern life. They transport goods of all kinds across the country. Living with the train crossings must take a lot of patience.

I had one of these right after high school, back in the days when summertime living was easy, and so were the girls.:lookhappy: That one looks like a convertible, I had a hardtop. Mine was dark cobalt blue, it had balls plus it was a nice cruiser to be seen in. Your pics bring back some memories of the rides me and my friends used to have. Thanks Dark.

When I was growing up, my friend had a Camaro RS, only it was a sleeper, a rat car. The only good thing about it was the motor, everything else was falling apart, and the car was in 2 colors of primer. He put about 2 grand into the motor, a worked 400, dual quad carb, Dana rear, the front end would lurch into the air in first gear.
The coolest thing was pulling up to a dude in Daddy's beemer or volvo, and giving the guy the finger and leaving him in the oil smoke behind. I love cars from that era, thanks for the cool pics.

I thought it would be boring, but there aren't a lot of things to do out there, you either adapt, or die.
The interesting part is how modern farms are so much more effiecient, which is a no-brainer  but also how the effiency changed for the better, and the worse, over the years. It was also cool that they had some cool old antique farming equipment, schoolrooms, and the highlight of the trip, pigs in the mid! :naughty:
(videos to come if I ever get them downloaded to vimeo)
More pics to come when I get a chance
