Zeno Hromin is the man. He's an accomplished surfcaster (in case there's someone out there who's never heard of him)
He's written a few books and articles, the most recent one being "The Art of Surfcasting with Lures"
Above that, he's a genuinely nice guy, always willing to share his knowledge with people who want to learn.
Check out his new site, some good stuff, and some other stuff by Paul Melnyk, one of the most fearless skishers out there.

Fall run…its on
By Zeno (http://surfcastersjournal.com/blog/?author=1)
http://surfcastersjournal.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/twins-mtk1-300x199.gifFishing is not what it used to be. Or, maybe it is not meeting my expectations, however modest they might be. This has been a dismal year in many places along the striper coast for surfcasters. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen so many dedicated surfrats hang their waders in disgust and take a summer off from fishing. Granted, there always was a small minority among us, those who prefer to just wait till the fall run kicks in gear, before they don their waders and hit the suds. To some extent they have a good reason to snicker behind our backs this season as many have put in long hours and had not much to show for it. But don’t be fooled into thinking that these armchair quarterbacks will suddenly spring into action and become proficient fish hunters.
It takes not only skills and luck to catch fish, but determination and the patience of a saint at times. Many of these guys will still show up two hours after sunrise and lament about a slow bite. Those who know better will already be toasting with coffee over a hearty breakfast and recalling the events of a previous night. I barely managed ten hours of sleep in the last three nights combined. I drank at least a hundred cups of coffee over this three-day weekend, just to function somewhat normal.
There will be those who will tell you that the calendar is not ripe yet, that it is too early. They will tell you about water temperatures, cold fronts and waiting on mullet to exit the bay. I will tell you that the run is on and that I’ve seen more fish over twenty pounds caught in last few nights then I’ve seen in a long time. I got a feeling this Northeast blow will not hurt fishing at all, except in the place where I will be traveling to in the morning.…more on that latter. The fall run is on…. time to lose your mind. You have been plugging hard all year…go enjoy the rewards
