Are the scales officially checked for accuracy by the fish and game? Question being if someone catches a world record fish how do you know the scale is accurate?

It is a relatively simple process, hookset. You should ask your local shop if they are IGFA certified, not all of them are. It's a good idea to know the location of such a shop in case you may have a record one morning at 5am and need to get it to the shop quickly.
