I like to hook the eel through the top lip and out the eye socket they last longer and can only see the bass out of one eye.

What he said, unless it's already dead. If you're fishing a dead eel, hook it from underneath straight through the skull. It's much harder to cast it off this way

I hook Eels through one eye, under the brain cavity and out the other eye. I usualy cast and slowly retrieve and cast again, they hold up real well as long as you don't hit the brain with the hook.

If you do get a bass on a eel do not change it just something about it you have a better shot at catching more on the same eel than if you change it, if you hold the rod up and the eels tail curls up it's still good.

I thought I had someone tell me once to hook an eel down it's throat without hitting its internal organs. Has anyone done this.

Once I have the eel hooked what is the best way to fish with it. Slow or fast retieve, deep or ontop or maybe jiging?

I don't know why that is either, but I agree. Maybe because they have a "bass-lips " tattoo and are marked for life.:D

I was told that you can slow the eels down which makes it easier to hook them.

If you take ziplock bags and fill them with ice then place them in a small cooler with the eels they will slow down. Is this true?
