We just had two big storms pass our way. What are the best lures to use during these windy conditions?

It depends how strong of a wind. In the face wind I use Needles, with teasers, or A17, deadly **** with teasers. I caught so many bass dragging tins at night most fish caught on teasers. I haven't use bottle plugs in years I believe that's an option also.

I usually fish deadly ***** with teasers, that and some prayers.

I like to throw an Ava 37 with the rubber teaser. I will also throw a popper (pencil or polaris) if I can get it through the wind (2.5 oz to 4 oz.)

I like to use metals. I find they love the flash if it is windy.

kastmasters (any tins really), bucktails, polaris poppers. Also my casting technique changes a little too. I try and release a little later, making the trajectory a lil lower to get under the wind. Also i try not to get too much out of each cast. When I try to cast too hard in wind it usually goes too high and just balloons. So a softer, more accurate cast usually pans out better

But like we've all said and obsevred especially this year. noreasters usually screw the fishing up for a few days from shore

Bucktails with a rind. If it is really windy you can slice the rind in half to make it less wind resistant. If you need extra distance or heavy winds, teasers are useless. If the fish are up close then it makes no difference.

Bottle plugs, metal, needles are all a good choice. Heck, you can even toss big metal lips if you have fish up close in the wash.

Casting style can make a huge difference in whether or not you can deliver your lure properly. Casting like Johnny said can make the difference. There is also the option of the sidearm cast. The only time this doesn't always work is when the swells are huge. You will just end up putting the lure through the breakers. Timing comes into play here. Practice these on the nice days so you are prepared when you get out in the wind.

hey guys I did not read this before I fished today. I was out fishing and they said they have been catching them on small metals so I threw an ava 007 and it got blown back to the beach. Finally an older guy came along and said he got some in the morning but with that wind I should use an ava27. It was a lot better and stayed further down in the water. I only got a sea robin but the guy told me he got bass in the mornings there some times. So I know it was on the right track.
Thanks and I wondered about the teasers too. How strong does the wind have to be before you take off the teaser and just start throwing metal?

For me its never to windy to take off a teaser (when I want to fish a teaser).
One of my best trips was Island Beach in 2008, had fished form 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, was a pic all day of Blues and Stripers up to 28 inches, a real fun day, had to work for the fish, was drizzly/rainy. Just as it was getting dark the wind kicked up big time from the east to where if someone was next to you talking, you could barely hear them and it started horizontally pouring, was intense. Casting an Ava 27 or 37 with the rubber teaser then resulted with a bass (or 2) almost every cast. The teaser was what got most of the fish.
Other times fishing with a strong wind in my face casting the Ava and teaser over a sand bar and dragging it over the bar the teaser would out catch the Ava.
So for me its almost never to windy to fish a teaser.

Here are a few pics from that day/evening in 2008.

A double in the heavy wind

Yup, right when that starts to blow it can turn on in an instant. One october around 2007 or 2008 we had conditions like that. Wind was more NE than E at times it was almost blowing sideways alternating with hard NE in your face. The surf was big and the bait was in tight. Teen bass on every other cast and some nice blues. All on metal and red tubes. Finchaser I read what you wrote in the other thread and most of the time I hate teasers. This was one time when I would throw differently. Big surf for some reason a red or chartreuse rubber teaser is good.
Also a fan of heavy metal in big surf. Or a Pt Jude Pojee 2-4 oz. The back end of that jig delivers a great punch through the wind. You can also try a big darter like SS bottle or heavy 3 oz needlefish. Depends on the wind and the force. Small metal or heavy bucktail to punch it out there with wind in the face is primo. Great pics monty those were times when fishing was actually worth it.
