Storm IDA Pictures BEACH & collateral damage 11-13-09

Ocean county beaches are gone in most places from the road is a 15 to 20 foot drop to the beach. Most steps are gone standing on any of the platforms that led to steps now looks like a cliff.

In bay head old pilings from buried boardwalk are showing. In all area's water is up to dunes. I took these at low tide.

Wow :wow: great pics! That looks like frozen muddy ice, how big were the waves?

Some serious damage out there, people. Fin sent me this, from another site:



"The Seaside Park barrier is in trouble. This morning went up to see what happened, not sure when, but the ocean breached the top of the dunes in 4-5 spots. This happened where the "walk-ways" were unusually wide, but from the top of the dunes to the street is 7-8 ft down. If it makes it over the dunes, we'll be in trouble. There is a steep cliff at the bottom of the dunes on the ocean side, maybe 2-3 ft high, where the waves are just eating the dunes down from the bottom, ocean side.

Stopped a few spots on my way in to work. Mantoloking has like 15 ft high dunes, but not a WHOLE LOT of beach. The stairs go down these 15', then sand. I stopped at Lyman St. and they had a "viewing platform" where people can sit next to the stairs and watch the surf. The stairs are gone, and the viewing platform is reduced to about 4 pilings sticking out of the sand. Will upload some pics in a min. As I passed other streets, every street had police tape at the top of every stair-case, just like at Lyman, so I imagine they're all gone.

Stopped at Manasquan inlet, about RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the tides. Water was still coming in the inlet, and was up over both the pt pleasant and Manasquan retaining walls. There were about 100 cars parked running, just looking at the inlet, with police nearby, and news 12 on-site.

Oh Yeah, and the waves are breaking ABOVE the height of Casino Pier in the Heights. At high tide, might be breaking ON the pier.

I think for MAJOR issues, this afternoon's high tide will be worst, with early Saturday being a close second, and should be done after that. Then the barriers have to worry about the bays coming over when the wind switches Sunday.

It does seem that Seaside dunes built up a bit in some places. Where the entrance is wide enough to give a straight alley through namely the 2 decked overviews for wheelchairs) it has stripped away a LOT!!! of dunes, and it is now all over the road.

Looking up and down, seemingly Mantoloking and Lavallette got hit the worst on this island. No reports from IBSP. Mantoloking is doing pretty bad. I showed you the pics of Lyman street earlier, well the "wall" of sand has increased in height, meaning more sand was removed from the bottom, and the "sand-line" that creates the cliff has receded by about another 2 ft.

On the plus side, seaside heights boardwalk has up to 8 ft tall mounds of sand, namely in front of the fishing pier entrance, and legally they can't move it because their "sand-moving" permit expired, and has not been renewed yet."

Wow some damage that storm caused. Hope nothing that bad happens this year or it will ruin the fishing. thanks for those pics guys.
