Do it yourself: Cape Cod Tackle and Salty Bugger

Just wanted to put out a good word for the do-it-yourself kits sold by www.CapeCodtackle.com (http://www.CapeCodtackle.com)

These guys put out ready made plug kits where all you have to do is put the components together, paint and finish.

In essence, they do the work for you if you don't yet have a lathe and are not sure you want to commit the whole 9 yards to plug building.

All blanks are made of AYC, and I have gotten good feedback from some of my friends.

1.5 Oz Peanut Plooper Popper Lure Kits

4" long, 1" diameter and 1.5 Oz size, Birch Wood, Stainless steel through wired construction with a large cupped face.
All kits are sanded out to 150 grit and require minimal if any sanding.
All components are included except for split rings and hooks,
we recommend 2/0 treble hooks for the belly and tail of this lure, or use a dressed 5/0 siwash on the rear too!
We use only USA made components in our kits and our quality is second to none!
Casts a country mile, with excellent action and a very simple twitching of your rod makes this lure go PLOOP PLOOP PLOOP right across the top. Excellent kit for starting out or for people without a workshop, and a VERY good lure kit for use with kids!
Alternatively the belly hook hole is drilled to accept our standard belly weights, the weight (http://www.saltybugger.com/lureweights.htm) is not included but is available on our site, this will allow you to use just a single rear hook for fishing tuna, bluefish, etc.


Can be painted with ordinary spray bombs, or seal first and then paint with Apple Barrel/Createx paints and a small brush or airbrush from AC Moore, let them dry thoroughly and coat with a few coats of clear spray paint or brush with epoxy etc in thin coats for more durability. We recommend sealing the lure to prevent water intrusion before painting.

2.5 Oz Jointed Needlefish Wood Lure Kits
9" long and 2.5 Oz size, stainless steel thru-wired this is a great Sandeel imitation needlefish!
1/2" molded eyes and all kits are sanded out to 150 grit and require minimal fine sanding.
All components are included except for split rings and hooks which we recommend
VMC 4/0 treble hook for the belly and a 6/0 Siwash on the tail of this lure.


We use only USA made components in our kits!
Very simple retrieve on this lure, either keep it up top with your rod at a 45 degree angle, or let it sink and fish the bottom.



This needlefish is an advanced kit. It requires installing a belly lead weight with epoxy and re-drilling the thru-wire with a 5/32x6" drill bit. We recommend this is done with a battery drill or hand drill for safety. It requires sealing, minor sanding, and painting/finishing.


These kits are all turned on our dedicated kit cnc machine and drilled with precision and duplication second to none!
Can be painted with ordinary spray bombs, or seal first and then paint with Apple Barrel paints and a small brush from AC Moore, let them dry thoroughly and coat with a few coats of clear spray paint or brush with epoxy etc in thin coats for more durability.


Others more advanced can use an airbrush and Createx paints.

2.5 Oz Tallywhacker Metal Lip Swimmer Lure Kits
4.5" long and 2.5 Oz size, stainless steel thru-wired this is a great swimmer! Oversized 1/2" molded eyes!
All kits are sanded out to 150 grit and require minimal sanding.
All components are included except for split rings and hooks which we recommend a VMC 4/0 treble hook for the belly
and 6/0 Siwash on the tail of this lure. We recommend some "Zap a Gap" glue on the hook to keep the tail glued on.


We proudly use only USA made components in our kits!
Very simple retrieve on this lure, use a loop knot on the front and it will tail wag right on top.



This swimmer is a good intermediate kit. It requires gluing the lip in, gluing the eyes/grommet in, minor sanding, and painting/finishing.
