One of the greatest lessons I learned about fishing was to watch. Watch those around you. Look to see how they are fishing. Watch the conditions of the water. Pay attention at low tide.
Valuable information taught to me. What is the greatest lesson you have learned?

I think this is a lesson:
More often than not there are fish to be caught. Have confidence, fish hard, apply what I have learned. More often than not the skunk will be avoided. Continue to learn.

I have had the pleasure of hanging around with some very knowledgeable and insightful fishermen. I always keep my ears open and try to write things down before I forget them.
That is another thing, when attending seminars always bring a notepad to jot down anything you may think you can use.

Very good point I am bringing a small notepad with me when I go to surf day.
