The smiles on their faces, especially the one just above, say it all.:thumbsup:
It looks like for some of these you used a digital camera and just put some of the older ones on a flat surface to take digital pics of the pictures. They came out great. I was kind of procrastinating doing that with some of my pics as many are the old 35mm prints. I was waiting to buy a scanner, who knows when I'll get around to that. :don't know why:
So I was wondering if you did anything special (other than just laying them flat on a table) to take those digital pics of the pics?

Didn't manage to get anything bigger than 20 last year. This was tossing a metal lip swimmer 5-24-09 at 2:30 am off the tip of a rockpile. Tide was almost dead low, blind casting, no bait around. Only fish I got that night.

He's come a long way since this pic. Last time out I had him pluggin. He's still working on the casting distance, but at least he didn't get tangled up. I'll post up more when I can find them.

I think you did a decent job with the glare. You can only see it on a few. That's one of the things that kept me putting off doing this. I had it in my head that I needed to scan them. I've taken pics of 35mm prints. The best luck I had was when the camera was angled askew to the pic. If you see a glare spot developing, change the camera angle a bit. Otherwise, great job!:thumbsup:
Hey DS looks like your buddy George has got some patience.
When I first started taking George and his little cousin fishing, they were only 7. Back then I would hook the fish and let them reel them in. They would get bored quickly. A few hours of fishing with them ended up with them playing in the mud while I hooked the fish for them. They would take the bluefish, dig holes in the sand for them, fill with water, and say the bluefish were "in the hospital". I guess they didn't notice too much that the bluefish we bought home never got "better". ;)
So it's been a transition for them. I got them into bait fishing, they did ok. Last year was the first time I got George to throw plugs. I took him out surfcasting a few times after that, and have tried to giive him an understanding of fishing, conservation, the kind of water that is good for fishing, and all the little baitfish you want to look for.
He is developing patience, which is great because he never was very patient to begin with. (He kinda reminds me of when I was little.) :viking:
On one of our trips in the spring, he was observant enough to notice a worm hatch in the water. Pretty cool.
I'm real proud of him, and hope we can get him some nice fish for 2010 as he learns how to throw different plugs.

@ Darkskies- do you still take the kids out fishing?. MEntal note to myself- KEEP IT FUN FOR THEM!!!!!
Rob, I haven't taken kids fishing in quite some time....
It's something I regret as I want to pass on some of my knowledge before I get old and senile....in the same manner it was passed on to me....
The kids I used to take have gotten older, and as a natural progression in things have had other interests become more important....
I understand that,,,,,don't know how so many 20 somethings are addicted to fishing now.....for me those were the party years and some of the wildest times of my young adult life..:fishing:.fishing was something I did when I couldn't line up any females to hang out with for that night....
The best thing I can offer you with your children....IMO fishing is something that can't be forced,.,,,,,,if they're going to develop an interest it will come naturally...the nicest thing, if you get anything out of it at all., is memories they will have of getting out with their Dad and away from the electronic world some kids seem to live in nowadays.....
Good luck with your fishing trip to the lake....if they catch any fish post some pics in a thread....and if they develop an interest I'll send them some freshwater lures....have a ton of stuff I'll never get to use....and fun for them to try....good luck, be patient, and keep us posted.......:HappyWave:

Outgoing was also key to us also last night SharkHart.
I fished last night with my dad and brother.
We had a slow and steady pick through the night but there was a good thirty minute window on the outgoing tide where the action was pretty good.
We went through a dozen bunkers with most fish being in the 30" range or smaller.
During that window a 16lber and the 23-25lber above were caught.

Some fish I've been getting at night....mostly blues to 7#,,,and one bass.
The bass hooked in the back wasn't an accident....I also got a bluefish in the back like that....they were feeding on small bait....it seemed they kept missing it as the strikes were more reactionary than aggressive...
Most of my rear hooks have been changed to singles for ease of release and minimal injury.....
Unfortunately that one bluefish hit so awkwardly he got stuck in the eye....I took some time to get that hook out, so hopefully he wasnt blinded.

I think it's safe to say there won't be daytime bunker blitzes in July. The bunker boats have cleared a lot of them from the water, and what is left, for the most part, can now be found off the SS of LI, in deeper water....and in the deeper channels of the NY Bight
I have a bunch of pics that have been piling up....
Will try to post them as I get a chance....
This one is of one of our members....pics and story courtesy of him...:HappyWave:
Some of you may have seen these, as (someone else, the writer and photog California Tommy) eventually posted in an article he wrote....
18609
18610
This fish.....was the result of days and days...not of waiting, but of going out there every day......driving up and down the beach.....looking for the right combinations of fish and bunker......
As mentioned previously, the bunker blitzes didn't happen this year in the usual areas.....you had to be very mobile, able to recognize certain signs of blitz "potential"...as most of the "blitzes" seen by shore fishermen were weak, short lived, or not robust because of less bass driving those bunker....Conditions have changed drastically....
all will be discussed in another thread.....
I just wanted to set up some of the conditions faced, for those who think 2014's surf blitz fish were "easy" fish......
The bass came when this member :HappyWave: identified one beach where they were likely to be....He was casting like a madman...one of the first on the beach to catch a fish that day.....for awhile it was him and a small number of others fishing...until the hordes arrived.....
To me, although a blitz fish, it was a memorable achievement......and one of the few fish he has kept in his fishing career...
So congrats on a job, well done.
I think the final weight was around 44lbs, 7 oz.
One of the biggest fish caught on artificials from the NJ surf so far for 2014. :clapping:

^ Thanks, Monty...that only happened because initially I was tossing plugs, light bucktails, and rubber, and could not get a hit. After an hour it was time to leave and move on. However, the small shrimp bait that was there confounded me. I felt there had to be fish even though they weren't actively feeding. I also thought that the fish might be scattered, they definitely weren't concentrated. Throwing a popper or spook, with an erratic retrieve, draws them in.
It doesn't always work at night. The best conditions for me, are a little chop on the water. Too much wind and they're not gonna be able to find what you're working (if they really are scattered). Too little wind hasn't been great for me either. Just that light chop, slight breeze, 5-10 mph, seems to be a great environment for success, for me.
Another in a series of fish that were caught during the last weeks of June...The action on this day lasted 20 mins at that location.
This one was reported to be around 20-21# but doesn't look it because the pic was taken from above...IMO the worst angle if you want to get a true guage of the fish's size.
Still a nice size, C&R by a member here....pic posted with his permission. :HappyWave:

Dayum they be some solid fish Rich. Too bad I have not patience for running around after them. That 44# is outstanding. Monty yes you can get bass and bluefish at night on poppers. Wait till september when the back bays are loaded with peanuts and snappers. Toss a small popper at night and your golden. Another thing that works great is a rattle trap. Throw it out there like a plug but work it like a popper making it dance out of the water. Those things rock.

Some more night tides pics.....
This is a friend from Delaware......fishes every chance he gets, when he's not working....All pics courtesy of him....
His new addiction is bunker heads...before that it was live eels at night...as he travels the Coast to put himself where the biggest bass are feeding at night......
Note the size of the hooks he is using......

He sent me some pics of bass he was catching Cape May area...in June....
long after everyone else had given up catching larger bass down there....he was getting bass to 30#...at night,,,,by fishing up to 8 hours at a time...
(and if he was lucky was only catching one of these nice fish, per trip) all on the night tides......:fishing:

Another good night for a NJ friend fishing the night tides.....
He hunts big fish exclusively....he was very disappointed this year because he spent countless hours early season looking for bigger fish.....many 8 hour nights out there with nothing....We've had many conversations how the fish are not available in numbers like they used to be for us.....
He did have some good nights.
Most of his fish were caught within a 30 night period from May-June....
And every one of them had to do with large bunker schools passing through....
The latest of his big fish......mid-June.....he had a 1 1/2 hour window to catch these fish....after that the activity was completely dead...
He got 3 large fish to 35# in that short window.
18673
I got there a little late for the party....and as a result got nothing.
All fish caught on bunker heads....he released the 2 largest, and kept this one, about 30#.

Awesome pics of cowboy charlie. I was fishing the hook one night earlier this year and he let me take these pics. They didn't come out that great. Still you can tell it's him because his truck has all this lettering on it. There is only one cowboy charlie. He is definitely a character.

I haven't seen his trailer in a while. He would always have a crazy cowboy hat and sometimes had a pet rabbit with him. We had a hilarious conversation with him one day on RT36 at a stop light.

Report from Team TCB from last Thu night...
1. Just to be clear, they have been out almost every night since the season opened...fishing hard for bass...so far up to Fri night,, their biggest bass so far was in the mid teens...lots of work for the fish they caught....)
2.The bass follow certain patterns every year....if you pay attention to these patterns sometimes you can strategize where they might sit for a while...and be available to guys fishing for them from land.....
3. Based on these patterns....I was pushing Team TCB to fish a certain area....they didn't want to go there as they were having some luck in another area....
4. I kept pushing and pushing them...telling them their time window was limited...as I know of a few spots where the fish consistently stage every year.....
They called me Thur night....hooting and shouting...sending me the pics you see posted here....
The nicest thing about that.....my one friend had his 16 year old son fishing with him......
And every single one of these guys got multiple nice fish....on bunker heads...including his son....
I don't have any kids...and grew up in a dysfunctional family....so it's a great joy to me to help Dads and their kids find fish.......:)
Congrats to Team TCB for an outstanding night of fishing....and finding some of the biggest fish from land so far...:clapping:
I'm proud of you guys....all of ya's......including that stinky basstid Mikey BonZ.... :HappyWave:
All pics and report courtesy of Team TCB....
**We delayed posting these...to allow them to fish that bite in peace.....until it was done....

Cape May....May 2015....
This is a friend who goes out and hunts for fish....
{some of you have heard remarks made that some of these post-spawn Cape May area fish had nothing in their bellies).....this one was long and a little under weight.....
Some of the fish 47" and over have weighed out at 42 lbs or more...you can tell by looking at the pic she is long and skinny for her size......
Some details...
"Fished from 4-7am...nothing....
Took a nap..ate lunch..went for a drive up the coast....
Went back to beach front around 5:30....
Got her at 7pm on fresh clams....
continued fishing until 9:30 pm when the tide died......
I had a really fresh bunker head on other rod....they did not touch it....
The power of the clam....Clam beat out bunker...
47 inches and 36 lbs
17 hours for one fish...thanks for the good words Rich I earned that fish!"

They are fun to catch for sure, we get them bigger in the fall, in the mid 40s to 50 inchs. If you ever get down to the eastern shore in fall let me know we can try and put you on one.

White water. Recently had a trip where I picked up 18 or so short bass, each was caught in white water. Not a fish would hit without a breaking wave or turbulent part of the beach.
