Let's hear some feedback about this flea market, guys and girls.

G and I did a whirlwind road trip today, hitting both this show and the JSS show.
I think the general consensus was that attendance was off a bit at both shows. That wasn't for lack of trying though. The economy is hitting people bad, lots of people have more worries about their jobs and paying the mortgage than going to a fishing show.
It seems the Manahawkin ffm attendance wasn't too far off, with 840 customers in 2009 and 810 in 2010.
However, one thing I'm noticing is that the Fishing flea markets seem to have some great values. If you only have a little money to spend and don't mind buying used stuff, the fishing flea markets are definitely the way to go.
Deals vary, but with the flea markets the vendors are paying a lot less for the tables, and many are looking to cut a deal if you're a good negotiator and not too arrogant.

Hat's off to the people of the RAMS and Manahawkin HS fishing club for putting a good day together.
On the way out of there, G recognized Darren Dorris, one of the writers for NJ Angler magazine. He's a teacher there, and is actively involved in taking those kids out on trips, along with others from the club.
Good mojo on you people for keeping kids hooked on fishing, not on drugs. :clapping:
Nice job on the preparation and the day. Nice to have met ya, Darren. :HappyWave:

Tom Sweeney the Salt Water Piney

Got to meet a small jig maker today, Tom Sweeney. He makes a lot of styles and sizes. The difference about this guy is the artwork on the jigs. He paints the jigs and heads unlike any I've ever seen, quite unusual.

It was interesting to meet a guy who applies this creative talent to such a small thing as a jig head.

He also uses quality hooks and tails for the teasers.
He only hits a few markets a year. If you see him, stop by his table and take a look.
Or give him a call at (609) 493-1875.
Nope, he doesn't have e-mail.
Nice to meet ya Tom. :HappyWave:

Got a chance to meet Val Zak from Oceanside B&T on LBI today. She's a larger than life character on the internet, and a tackle shop owner who tries her best to carry what the customers in her area need.
Her friend Albie was clowning around and they were good sports to let me do a little interview. Nice to meet you both. :HappyWave:

Albie and Val Zak. Albie's a retired pornstar. He tells us he just hits up the flea markets for some extra dough. (That's Albie on the left) :plastered:
Albie also said he isn't used to being in pics with his clothes on.
I'm at a loss for words on that one.
Nice meetin both of ya's! :HappyWave:

Glad you were able to shoot this video ds as NJangler is no more. I used to love there videos. They tried to do something different. Sad that it didn't work out for them.
I will be going to that flea market on sat. I will have a Philly Eagles hat on. Hoping to see some other S&A members there. If you see me say hi!:HappyWave:

I went early got only a few things and circled back later 2 hours before closing. Mad deals. One guy had rubber in many different bags, zooms, shads, grubs, eels. Scooped it all up for $25. Almost enough to last me the season. Love these flea markets. I'll be at Berkeley in March but I don't think I'll find another deal like the steal I got today. Surferman nice meeting you.

Nice meeting you too jigfreak.:HappyWave: Glad that you got that rubber. I saw it and was thinking about buying some but I guess you got a better deal. Smart strategy it pays to go near the end when they are looking to get rid of everything. I got a few bombers for $2 and some tsunami sand eels at a good price.

DS that took me back you asking Darren about what's on the plate for the NJ Angler. Really miss that show and the magazine. I feel them going out of business left a real void for NJ fishing. Kind of sad they are no more.
