I always noticed that when I fished by the banks and there were nearby homes that there was oil residue along the sides of the river.

Pesticides must have a lot to do with from the yard.

How does the runoff of poor quality affect the fish and what we eventually consume?

I assume you are talking about bass. Bass are bottom feeders to the chemicals on the bottom go right into their stomachs. Cut the dark meat out and you will be ok. Fishing near city areas? Don't eat the fish if they are glowing.;)

Don't worry about it. If the run-off was that bad with the nitrates from all the beautiful lawns there would be nothing living in the area.

Seriously, I have no idea but it can't be good for you.

I know when they treat the lawns they put little flags on the grass. This lets people know it has been treated and not to walk on it.
I don't anything lawn treating chemical is good for you it is all poison.

So the runoff must affect the fish.
