The rain was terrible last night. I sat through it for one short runt. sometimes in the rain the fishing turns on. Not last night. I felt like a drowned rat out there.

I really feel that area is within 3 weeks of blowing up as the water cools.

The big blues should be there soon, following the bunker...with some bass right behind them....
That area is loaded with sea bass, spot, and pinfish as well, more so than it has been in the last few years....
Hope you're there when the fish come down the pike....

You deserve something other than buzzard's luck....I believe it's gonna turn around real soon..... :HappyWave:

I made that prediction on 9-5-12 based on past logs and reports here....

Things for a lot of areas are a little late this year.
This distresses me because there are always little bass in the NY Bight.

According to what G and other sources are reporting even though there are tremendous amounts of bass forage, the bass had not shown up yet in any decent sizes or numbers. This includes the little bass that they can catch throughout the year when the season is open (throwbacks)

Remember this, folks, when you are shouting about how much of a comeback the striped bass have made.....:learn:

Anyway, on a positive note, Roger got a 31 the other day eeling....

The report:

Saturday (http://njpcfishingreport.blogspot.com/2012/09/saturday_29.html)

Today the Sunday crew was out and they made all the difference. The morning tide only produced one short striper. If I did not have the regulars onboard,I would have left the area as we went through the slack water without a bite while waiting for the tide to change. When the current started to run around 11:30 the bite turned on. First it was 12 to 14 lb. bluefish and then some bass. Roger had his limit and started off the fall bass run in style, landing a 31lb. striped bass that ran both of us around the boat.

looks like the bite is on in my local river. three keepers all 30" in the second to last hr of outgoing on a Yozuri black over silver crystal minnow. as soon as i showed up I saw some activity and knew I would get into fish but this was my first hat trick. lost a fourth keeper when he got unbuttoned. fish were hitting in fifteen min intervals in right off the back side of the "pillars". caught a small guy and then called it a night. should probably try the incoming later. we had a really good, what I would call healthy incoming tide today with the wind blowing north and every year when that happens it seems to bring a wave of fish thru.

well i have bin out around the dw and all the big fish seem to have moved after the storm its like spring with all the little bass i got a whole bunch from fri to sun but not fish with size fresh bait and frozen bait u could not keep the little guys away if u let the bait sit to long the crabs or ling would get the bait with the way things are looking i think its time to put my rods up till spring i just think its not worth it to keep going out spending money and wasteing time so i am done till 2013 good luck guys and gals

ledhead36
11-18-2012, 09:58 PM
Have to be in it to win it. At least you tried. I think the water is getting too cold now and a lot of bait gone from the bay where we fish too.

gjb1969
11-18-2012, 11:12 PM
well i have seen bunker for the last two days but no fish on them and i cant be out all the time so i am done for now

DarkSkies

A member sent me a pic of a boat for scouting and fishing the dirty water once the spring season starts....

**The only thing I would add to this is a word of caution.....
A flat bottomed boat this small size could be in trouble if the bay winds and waters kick up suddenly.....Spring waters around the 40-45 degree mark can incapacitate you if you fall in...within 10 minutes you can be paralyzed from the cold, and soon after death could follow if you can't get back to land

I dumped a boat similar in size many years ago. It wasn't a good day for me...and I learned some valuable lessons that day....
Be careful out there guys. Thanks for the pic.....:HappyWave:

Was wondering if anyone ever catches keeper fluke in the dirty water areas or the Hudson river? I have seen guys pull in small ones but never a keeper.

williehookem
08-13-2013, 11:41 AM
It depends on how far back you go into those waters. If you are talking about the Hudson they do catch keeper fluke at the mouth. The further up you go the less the salinity is and I think the bigger ones are less likely to go up there. Bass and blues its a different story you can get them as far as the George washington and the bass go all the way up to spawn in the spring.

Some nicer fish starting to move up the hudson. Report from today, not mine.

36" sushi from the waters around the Big Apple with a little help from my friends Alan & Wayne, we enjoyed a gift of the sea. I also tip my hat to another Manhattan legionary fisherman Steve Sloan who help create a program in Central Park to introduce fishing to kids and owned over 40 world fishing records. May we all be blessed this holiday with "Peace to your families as well as this country"

Just a heads up that its on in the Hudson. As of last week my cousin and his friends were getting 20 pounders on bunker. About 2-5 a day where they were fishing. Anywhere from Englewood down to Brooklyn. Hope that is vague enough. If not please edit. Catch em up dudes!

Im catching at least 1 striped bass every morning. 10-23 lbs it varies with the bait. All on bunker heads. Also seeing herring and very small bait too. Small window of opportunity, when the sun comes up it's over.

Heads up guys I was up in the Hudson above the TZB for a few hours yesterday. The water is dirty but they are catching on bloods. Mostly small ones. Did see a 29 incher get landed.
