Pretty work. Are you making some of these with a natural clear finish now?

No I'll probably paint them all, once the sealer dries I'll give them a quick sanding and then they get primed a couple of coats and then a final sanding, after that I can install the weights where needed then paint and epoxy.

Looking good, what do you seal them with?

I use Val Oil for a sealer some people cut it w/ mineral spirits I use it straight up.I'm not into the Boiled linseed smell and fire hazards so thats why I use the Val oil everyone uses something different. I like the oil it soaks in well I'm in no rush afterall the whole purpose is to keep water out and the plug from cracking, I don't sell mine so I don't look for perfection if I have a slight imperfection I can live w/ it

It seems like you pay meticulous attention to each part of the precess, Surfstix. Thanks for sharing these steps so others can learn.

Not a problem I'm no pro but I try to do things right.Hard woods need to soak a little longer the softer woods soak it up quick if it stays too long they become anchors, every sealer is different also I really don't have a set time I just wing it and hope it works out if they don't dry the oil will soak through the paint eventually it's not one of those things you can rush i'm just painting up the last one from the first batch of kits. A 5 oz. needle I think I will try green:huh:

Surfstix, you are going to get me into trouble with another hobby. Those look awesome. I would love to catch a fish on something that I made myself.

Do you ever throw them without painting them? Wonder if the fish will go for them like that.

I'm sure if a blue saw an unfinished plug he would slam it, I'll have to give it a shot.Right now it
is just keeping me from losing my mind.
