It's official - I'm gone. Just finished up this last plan and updated their website yesterday, was gone by lunch.
layoff day 1
did some networking today, stopped by a couple of architect's offices and the local college - job market looks pretty tight in the construction trades. paper said close to 30% unemployment in construction.
plan to do some yard work this afternoon.

Jon, sorry to hear of the layoff. These are very bad times we are living in. I fear the economy may not improve for a while. I hope things turn out for the best for you and your family.
My old eyes can't read small print anymore. Is that a conference center of some sort? You certainly have some talent. That is a very sharp looking building.

Wow, Jon, we talked about this but I didn't think it would come so soon. I'm sorry to hear the news. As mentioned, those drawings are amazing. I hope someone out there is able to recognize the talent you have. I'll pray for some opportunity to come your way. Call me anytime ya want, I'll call ya back so it's not on your dime.

Jon, I am so sorry to hear the news. I don't understand how anyone can possibly layoff someone with your talent!
Your work is amazing. I hope something opens up for you soon.

The Construction industry for the Past two years has been Brutal! We have gone from over 30 people down to 6 including office staff. That is here in MA. We were doing a ton of design build work. Now we basically do Verizon work. I am sorry to hear about the layoff that is tough. Best of Luck. Hopefully something will come your way soon.

Thanks everyone. Believe it or not, that house - which will be build on a hill overlooking a local lake - is for a single guy.
I got a couple of leads to do some house painting (that's what I did before I got into architecture) so i'll let you all know how that turns out. And I also have a lead for some web design work, just a small temp job, but hey, it's something.
I've been networking the last couple of days, with some architects and builders that i know, looking for design work, and at the local college where I went to school, and everybody says the same thing. Well actually mostly they just laugh or roll their eyes.
Construction industry unemployment here is close to 30%. yikes!
Thanks again everybody.
