I know the bass will eat clams in the surf, and from some of the other threads I know they will eat spearing and bunker. But right now there does not seem to be a lot of spearing and bunker in the surf. So what are they eating when they come in close to shore?

They eat crabs, sand fleas (mole crabs), some squid when they are in and out of the surf line, broken surf clams after a storm, and any cracked or broken mussels or marine life that washed off the jetties, among other things. A lot of the migratory bass now being caught have empty stomachs so they are putting on the feed bag looking for whatever.

Porgy, we were clamming last week in the ocean. Our line kept gettting fouled with heavy weeds. Pulling it in we saw a smorgasbord of crabs, pretty cool.

This one guy was cooking and eating them. Never knew you could do that.

bunker. they are all over. enough for them to eat for the next 20 years. They are back to the back bay spot. Acres of them last night but no bass on them.
