View Full Version : Clams, stinky or fresh?
DarkSkies

Rip bought what he thought was a bad batch of clams the other day. Without naming the tackle shop, I told him maybe the clams would be more productive. The water was colder then and the fish were sluggish.
(to me, these didn't smell that bad. I guess smell is subjective. G has been fishin with me, and the clams we sometimes use would burn the paint off your car...):upck:

I don't think there have been scientific studies to see the "smell vs hit ratio" of clams. I could be wrong. :d
Fresh or stinky doesn't matter to me, clams is clams is what I say... :plastered:
What say you??

THESE THINGS WERE HORRID. The meat was grey dude. I don't mind clammin or fishing chunks. The smell doesn't bother me but, these things were bad. Tackle shop should be ashamed to sell these things.

You're absolutely right, you weren't even eating a banana. But Cardoc brought the "suggestion" to the table, his wife thought it was funny, and we rolled with it. Me finding that banana peel on the beach was another stroke of luck, I couldn't pass it up.
That's how legends are made, bro. :thumbsup:
Why do ya think I carry my clearly labeled googan bucket around? I'm happy to have people laugh at my expense, it's all good. I met a bunch of cool flycasters because last week I snagged a 30# water logged pillowcase sunken in the troth as I was working my metal. We all had a good laugh over it as they asked me how I was going to cook it. :laugh:
And look at Killie. :wow: Legend has it that whenever he comes down to fish, the bite shuts down. That's total BS, I fished with the guy and he knows how to catch. However, in his case the legend of "no fish" is funny and longer lasting than a guy who CAN catch fish. He'll continue to be the guy who "shuts the bite down", it's much funnier that way.
Another embellishment was one of the recent times I fished with G. I said he was hanging over the bridge and the police came. He wasn't doing that. The actual story was more boring. It was me slightly peering over the edges looking down at each piling to scout if any bunker were stacked around them. No one was hanging over a bridge. But someone had thoughts that we were, and said there was a jumper. The truth would have been much easier to write. But so much more boring, so that's how that story came about.
So, along those lines, we created the story of you and the bananas, loosely based on the thinnest shreds of reality, all strung together for some laughs. :d
And now you have reached the highest honor :clapping:
Plug builder Speedy becoming so inspired that he created a killer "Banana Rip 316 Striper Swiper" :dribble: plug just for you! :rolleyes:
How many other guys achieve those honors in their fishing career? :don't know why:
Thanks for being such a good sport :thumbsup: lots of people telling me how funny this thread is already. These are the kinds of threads we can fall back on during the storms when we can't fish.
So to the Rip316 Striper Swiper banana dude, we all salute ya!!! :clapping: :thumbsup:

Quoting Mrs cardoc. She says RIP will always be her back bay banana boy LOL. She said it took her a few secs to come up with that name. She now calls herself the back bay b i t c h. For those of you who know her, know it fits because of her humorus personality.
I on the other hand see where pebbles is coming from. Thats hilarious. I didn't even think of it that way. Its all in good fun though. Swing any bats lately Dark?
Last night as i was fishing, i made a boo boo. I have a light on the end of my rod (HAHAHAHAHA) for night fishing. My line got wrapped around it and the bunker were getting tangled. I go to grab the line and untangle it and pulled my 2 piece rod apart. I jsut stood there a sec amazed at what i had done. :beatin: Good thing a fish didnt hit right then and there.
All i gotta say is that I wasnt the one who came up with the topic of making gay porn while walking thru an area secluded for anywhere but water.

DarkSkies at the Bat
By Ernest Lawrence Thayer Taken From the San Francisco Examiner - June 3, 1888
http://ops.tamu.edu/x075bb/poems/casey.jpg The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day;
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play,
And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same,
A pall-like silence fell upon the patrons of the game.
A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, "If only DarkSkies could but get a whack at that —
We'd put up even money now, with DarkSkies at the bat."
But Flynn preceded DarkSkies, as did also Jimmy Blake,
And the former was a hoodoo, while the latter was a cake;
So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat;
For there seemed but little chance of DarkSkies getting to the bat.
But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
And Blake, the much despised, tore the cover off the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and men saw what had occurred,
There was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.
Then from five thousand throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It pounded on the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
For DarkSkies, misguided DarkSkies, was advancing to the bat.
There was ease in DarkSkies's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in DarkSkies's bearing and a smile lit DarkSkies's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas DarkSkies at the bat.
Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt.
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
Defiance flashed in DarkSkies's eye, a sneer curled DS's lip.
And now the leather-covered sphere came hurtling through the air,
And DS stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.
Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped —
"That ain't my style," said DS. "Strike one!" the umpire said.
From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore;
"Kill him! Kill the umpire!" shouted some one on the stand;
And it's likely they'd have killed him had not Dark raised his hand.
With a smile of Christian charity great DS's visage shone;
He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
He signaled to the pitcher, and once more the dun sphere flew;
But Dark still ignored it, and the umpire said "Strike two!"
"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered "Fraud!"
But one scornful look from DS and the audience was awed.
They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
And they knew that Dark wouldn't let that ball go by again.
The sneer has fled from Dark's's lip, the teeth are clenched in hate;
He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate.
And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
And now the air is shattered by the force of DS's blow. :eek:
Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,

I use smelly clams when I am in a pinch. I have caught some nice bass with them. Usually right after a noreaster, when other clams are washed up on the beach, is when I find they outfish normal smelling clams. Or when the water is murky, they can be good.
