when I am reeling in the fish it keeps coming unbuttoned before I bring it in? Could it have to do with the hooks not being sharp enough?

Could be the reason check the hooks, could also be your setting the hook to quick and just grabbing the fish by the lip and dropping them.What kind of hooks are you using?

need more info to give u a good answer..like are u fish bait,plugs,poppers swimmers, mono or braid

More than likely the hooks are dull. They have to be sharp enough to dig into your fingernail if you slide the point across. One morning last fall me and 2 other guys were into fish almost every throw and mine kept coming unbuttoned 2 or 3 seconds after the initial hit. We were fishing AVA's, and I decided to check the hook. Sure enough, the hook was dull from being pulled through the sand for a couple of days. Took my sharpener out, which everyone should have with them at ALL times, and hit the hook a few times and from that point on I never dropped another fish that morning.
