But, still, very cool.) I carried my helmet in the crook of my arm, as Biff had
Instructed. If ever in my life I had a chance to nail Nicole Kidman, this was it.

A fighter pilot named Psycho gave me a safety briefing and then fastened
Me into my ejection seat, which, when employed, would 'egress' me out
Of the plane at such a velocity that I would be immediately knocked
Unconscious.

Just as I was thinking about aborting the flight, the canopy closed over me,
And Biff gave the ground crew a thumbs-up In minutes we were firing nose
Up at 600 mph. We leveled out and then canopy-rolled over another F-14.

Those 20 minutes were the rush of my life. Unfortunately, the ride lasted 80.
It was like being on the roller coaster at Six Flags Over Hell. Only without rails.
We did barrel rolls, snap rolls, loops, yanks and banks. We dived, rose and
Dived again, sometimes with a vertical velocity of 10,000 feet per minute.
We chased another F-14, and it chased us.



We broke the speed of sound. Sea was sky and sky was sea. Flying at
200 feet we did 90-degree turns at 550 mph, creating a G force of 6.5,
Which is to say I felt as if 6.5 times my body weight was smashing
Against me, thereby approximating life as Mrs.. Colin Montgomerie.

It was at this point I egressed the bananas.

And I egressed the pizza from the night before.

And the lunch before that.

I egressed a box of Milk Duds from the sixth grade.

I made Linda Blair look polite. Because of the G's, I was egressing
Stuff that never thought would be egressed.

I went through not one airsick bag, but two.

Biff said I passed out. Twice.. I was coated in sweat. At one point,
As we were coming in upside down in a banked curve on a mock
Bombing target and the G's were flattening me like a tortilla and I
Was in and out of consciousness, I realized I was the first person
In history to throw down.

I used to know 'cool'. Cool was Elway throwing a touchdown pass,
Or Norman making a five-iron bite.. But now I really know 'cool'.
Cool is guys like Biff, men with cast-iron stomachs and freon nerves.
I wouldn't go up there again for Derek Jeter's black book, but I'm
glad Biff does every day, and for less a year than a rookie reliever
makes in a home stand.

A week later, when the spins finally stopped, Biff called. He said
he and the fighters had the perfect call sign for me. Said he'd
send it on a patch for my flight suit.

What is it? I asked.




'Two Bags.'

the fastest truck i had was a s10 pickup with 406 cubic inch smallblock pushing 643 hp with nos. my first run and last was 9.9 sec in 1/4 mi. nhra said i can not run the truck with out a nhra lic.
i needed that lic. because any thing under 10.0 sec you had to have that lic and a full roll cage. i had a 3/4 cage not good enough had to be full cage under 10.0 sec that was that too much money and time.

the closest call was go down on a pro gas bike at a 190 mph at 3/4 track the motor let go i had to let the bike go meaning the bike hitting the wall or me thank god i let go
thank god for the safety suit the track is like a grinder :scared::naughty:

Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in too long.
There are seven of these little monsters floating around California , and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder vibration and Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750's and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH, which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase. By the way, they are almost indestructible in accidents!

Good luck with that one! I mean, the shell is ok, not rusted like many that old, but no motor or drivetrain? Or maybe he has that stored somewhere. Otherwise you're talking big dollars to buy all that stuff either new or NOS, and then wouldn't it take away from the stock value?

After spending decades as a collection of parts stuffed into wooden crates, the F-88 was reassembled. Few weekend race events have grown quite as quickly as the Texas Mile, a twice-a-year run down a 1.5-mile airstrip in Beeville, Texas, that lets tuners push their creations to 200 mph and beyond. One of the stars of the past couple of years has been a fourth-generation Chevy Camaro, tuned by a Houston shop into a twin-turbo monster that hit 263 mph last October, claiming the mantle of America's fastest Camaro. This year, the team returned to the Mile last weekend with some 2,800 hp — and found that the engineering they'd put into safety features paid off when the car went off track, rolled several times and caught fire.

The Camaro, built by KP Racing in Houston, was powered by a 441-cu-in V-8, which the team overseen by Kelly Bise and Late Model Racecraft had cranked to about 2,800 hp. While last October's run of 263.2 mph went off without drama, two years ago the Camaro had gone sideways at the end of the runway after hitting 244 mph:

According to witnesses, driver Joe Honeycutt was halfway through the run when it veered off the runway. "The car must have done at least 8 barrel rolls before coming to a stop, then it caught on fire," KP Racing said in a Facebook post. "Pretty scary for those of us attending the event."

Fortunately, despite the car's destruction, Honeycutt suffered only a concussion and several cuts and bruises, and was released from the hospital shortly after the crash, a testament to the roll cage and HANS neck-protection device Honeycutt wore. All involved say the crash won't deter them from returning to the Mile in search of even faster speeds — and ample proof that safety devices can keep such fun from turning fatal.

1969 Shelby Mustang GT500



It's not uncommon for rare vehicles to surface in a barn or rundown garage, encrusted in decades of dust, itching to be sold for a handsome profit. What is rare, however, is to find a one-owner, 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 (http://autos.yahoo.com/ford/shelby-gt500) ? one of only about 1,000 ever made ? resurface in its original condition, fastidiously maintained and never washed for fear of damaging the paint, with only 8,500 miles on the clock.

Larry Brown, a resident of Centre Hall, Pa., passed away on his birthday during the latter part of last year, leaving behind a trove of fascinating items. With no wife or children to inherit his estate, the entire collection ? his house, TVs, snow blowers, motorbikes and of course cars ? are heading to auction, with the Mustang the star attraction.
Brown purchased the car on May 9, 1969, for $5,245.97. The last recorded warranty work occurred in September that year, when Brown had the door glass adjusted. At that time, the registered mileage was 1,665. By 1973, Brown had stopped driving the car altogether, storing it in his garage with just 8,531 miles on the clock.
According to the auction listing at Ron Gilligan Auctioneers (http://www.rgilliganauctions.com/4-25%20brown%20contents.html), the GT500, that features a 428 Cobra Jet engine meshed to a 4-speed transmission, still maintains its original paint, tires, belts, hoses, factory steering wheel cover and 1968-dated coded spark plug wires. Vehicles with more miles, in far less original condition, have sold for over $100,000 ? offering clues as to how much Brown's GT500 may fetch when it goes under the hammer on April 25.

Internet skeptics, however, have doubted the car's originality (http://saacforum.com/index.php?topic=26860.15), analyzing the pictures for any evident discrepancies. It all started with the barely-worn Goodyear tires, appearing too new for 8,500 miles. This progressed when the keen-eyed pointed out that the tires were 8-digit Goodyear codes, made only during 1970 and '71 ? making it impossible for them to be original on a car from 1969. Commenters also questioned the engine's mileage due to the "amount of oil blow by all over (the) front of (the) motor and on (the) valve cover." This was challenged by Dane Hooper, an individual managing the estate, responding that the residue on the engine "looks like a thin film of undercoating or Cosmoline." This would make sense given Brown's obsession with keeping the car pristine (note the mud flaps to protect the quarter panels and fine wire mesh to keep debris from damaging the radiator). The coating may have been added to prevent corrosion prior to it being stored for 40 years.
After speaking with one of Brown's close friends and mechanic, Hooper clarified that the tires were indeed changed due to the original's inability to stay balanced for more than 500 miles. The front two tires were replaced under warranty with the rears being switched some time later. The production line wheels, however, remain original.

According to Hooper, the car was maintained by Brown even when he wasn't driving it ? firing the motor as recently as three years ago. It was known throughout the neighborhood that, when Brown did drive his Shelby from 1969 to 1972, he refused to drive it in the rain or even hose wash it for fear of rust: "If this car has been hose washed," the listing states, "it probably occurred at the detail bay of the selling dealer before delivery."
A car as special as this deserves to be driven. But when the hammer falls next month, those set to benefit from the sale might be thrilled Brown kept it dry.

HIGHLAND FALLS, N.Y. ? The Storm King Highway, a twisting two-lane ribbon carved into a mountainside here nine decades ago, hardly seemed the place to test the roadworthiness of a hot rod that looked to have just escaped the junkyard.

Of greater concern, perhaps, was that Peter Duvaloois had never traveled this road, some 50 miles north of Manhattan, before bringing his 1946 Chevrolet ?rat rod? truck here to meet a reporter. On the Storm King Highway ? a four-mile stretch of Route 218 that snakes along 400-foot cliffs overlooking the Hudson River and passes the United States Military Academy at West Point ? drivers must resist staring into the breathtaking vistas, even while keeping their distance from the low stone wall that serves as a guardrail.

To Mr. Duvaloois, 62, rat rods like his home-built pickup represent a return to the roots of hot-rodding. Rat rod builders embrace vehicles that display a rebellious attitude, along with loud manners and an intentionally distressed appearance, not necessarily the qualities needed to deal with a demanding road better suited to sports cars or motorcycles.

But Mr. Duvaloois seemed pleased, and possibly relieved, that his hot rod had taken the curves so competently.
?It handles well,? he said.

The hot rod movement that emerged after World War II drew young men ? it was overwhelmingly a man?s pursuit ? who bought the hulks of prewar cars out of scrapyards for a few dollars and modified them for more speed. Fords from 1932-40 were preferred, especially for their flathead V8 engines, which were readily tuned to increase power. The bodies were stripped of fenders and hoods for a leaner look.

By the late 1950s, hot rods were becoming elaborately customized vehicles, a trend that evolved to the point that pristine machines costing six figures and up became commonplace ? the antitheses of the genre?s origins.

Mr. Duvaloois is no stranger to that kind of car. Several years ago, he built a show-quality hot rod ? and then barely drove it.

?I was afraid to park it anywhere,? he said. ?I wasn?t having any fun with it.?
He turned his skills to building rat rods, a growing branch of the hobby that is as dedicated to drivability as it is to individual expression.
?Rats are really back to basics,? he said. ?You scrounge around or trade for parts, and what you can?t find you make yourself. That?s a big part of the fun.?

The scavenger-hunt and hand-building aspects come naturally to Mr. Duvaloois: With his wife, Cathy, he restored their 308-year-old house in Saugerties and built period-style furniture for it. The house had belonged to his father, who worked on it for many years before Alzheimer?s limited him.

?We finished it, and my father was able to see it completed before he died,? Mr. Duvaloois said. ?That?s something I?m really proud of.?
From his father, he also picked up his affection for cars.
?As a kid, I?d be in the garage with my dad in middle of winter, working on engines,? he said. ?He could build anything.?
Building a rat rod, Mr. Duvaloois said, begins with an inspiration, usually a favorite body style or even one part.
?It can be just a grille or a headlight shape or taillight design you really like,? he said. ?You create your vision around that.

?Inspiration for the vehicle he was driving this day, one of four that he has built, came from the cab of a derelict 1946 Chevrolet truck that he bought locally for $200. The floors had rusted out and there was no chassis. That didn?t matter to Mr. Duvaloois, who builds his own steel frames.
?It?s much stronger than the original chassis ever was, and it allows me to set the vehicle stance and height to get the particular look I?m after,? he explained.

Mr. Duvaloois installed a 1937 Ford front suspension and built his own rear suspension. And he made just about everything else, always with an eye toward creating a certain vintage patina.
?If you do it correctly, people think you found it in a barn,? he said. ?You make it look like it?s been around for 50 years.?
Mr. Duvaloois, who worked for many years as a mechanic in pharmaceutical packaging, lays out the chassis and body relationship using wood and paper forms.

In his workshop, he altered the cab considerably, slicing it lengthwise to take out 6 inches of width. He also narrowed the hood and metal dashboard and lowered the roof by 4 inches. The welded seams were left exposed. The bed was fabricated from sheet steel, then distressed to match the cab.

What little paint remains on the cab is original. Surface rust was left untouched, per the rat rodder?s credo conveyed on a windshield decal: ?In rust we trust.?

Despite the truck?s deliberate lack of polish, the builder?s attentive touch is revealed in various details. The taillights, for instance, come from a utility trailer, but their intricate spider-web garnishment is Mr. Duvaloois?s own metalworking.
?I see rats as works of art, and there?s a cartoonish aspect I really like,? he said.

Mr. Duvaloois acknowledged that he and other rat rodders took inspiration from the exaggerated forms of the Rat Fink cartoons of Ed Roth, known best by his Big Daddy signature.

While many rat rodders install Chevrolet V8s for their affordability and vast availability of parts, Mr. Duvaloois prefers an engine noted mostly for its brawn: Chrysler (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/chrysler_llc/index.html?inline=nyt-org)?s Hemi V8 of the 1950s. His truck uses a 241-cubic-inch Dodge version called a Red Ram.
?You really have to look for these things,? he said, reveling in the challenge of the hunt. ?It?s harder to find parts.?

He also relishes the sound of old Hemis, a distinctive dialect among American V8s, one that?s especially memorable when blasted through his truck?s minimalist mufflers. On the road, the unruly rappatta, rappatta, rappatta at low speeds evened out to a baritone bellow at cruising speed, then escalated to a peculiar warbling snarl as speed increased. Mr. Duvaloois wears earplugs on long highway drives.
While the racket might connote 400 horsepower to passers-by, a more realistic figure would be more like 150, less than even the typical 4-cylinder family sedan has today. That suits Mr. Duvaloois: His truck weighs just 2,500 pounds, and he feels it is quick enough.

He did add a later-model four-barrel carburetor for a bit more power. The electric choke it came with helps the engine start quicker in cold weather. Inside the original air cleaner housing, a low-maintenance paper cartridge filter from a 1980s Mazda diesel pickup replaces the original?s oil-bath filter.
?I don?t care much about speed,? he said. ?I?m more interested in reliability and gas mileage, because I drive a lot. My ?46 gets 23 miles per gallon.?

Grinning, he added: ?And if you?re going too fast, people can?t see how cool you look.?
For reliability, Mr. Duvaloois replaced the old-style generator and weak 6-volt electrical system with a more modern alternator and 12-volt setup. The upgrades made it possible for him to install a later-model Chrysler electronic ignition and an electric windshield wiper, which covers only the driver?s side.

A key to the car?s relative frugality is the 5-speed manual transmission Mr. Duvaloois adapted from a 1980s-vintage Chevrolet Camaro (http://autos.nytimes.com/2011/Chevrolet/Camaro/238/2654/325649/researchOverview.aspx?inline=nyt-classifier). Its overdrive top-gear ratio reduces engine speed on the highway. A brief test drive also revealed it to be easy-shifting.
Ease of driving is important to Mr. Duvaloois. He has put more than 35,000 miles on his pickup in recent years, much of that traveling to car shows, where he encourages people to enjoy his truck up close.

?Some cars have ?Look but don?t touch? signs, but I tell people, ?Get in, start it up, rev the engine,? ? he said.
His participation at car shows is not always appreciated.
?Kids love the rats, and so do grandmas,? he said. ?But I?ve overheard comments like ?Why would someone bring a piece of junk to a car show?? ?
Nothing like that is heard at the Rat?s Nest Run-In, a show he started four years ago. Word-of-mouth and Mr. Duvaloois?s recruiting helped bring 400 vehicles to last year?s show, one third of them rat rods.
?I drive my rats all over, from Virginia to Vermont, to invite cars to the show,? he said. ?I?m looking for the hand-built cars, the old racecars, the jalopies, things people put their heart and soul into.?
On such long drives, Mr. Duvaloois occasionally runs into rainstorms, something old-car owners typically try to avoid, not wanting to incur rust damage on unprotected metal parts.

Mr. Duvaloois is not deterred by rain.
?I rustproofed the whole underside,? said the man whose windshield sticker, ironically enough, declares his devotion to rust.

Yeah that's the new one, every cop in town knows me.So far no loud exhaust tickets or obstruction of view or not street legal front tires etc. etc.Some of them are motor heads some not so much. I'm still in L.I. Kam is having hand surgery Tuesday.

Yeah loud is putting it mildly...longtube headers to a 3" exhaust w/x pipe to some loud mufflers that is basically a 3/4 exhaust dumps out somewhere under the backseat less back pressure on the motor.The windows are vibrating in the house when I satrt it I already cracked the new garage window.LMAO.

This motor just went in a couple of weeks ago.I don't use a speedo lets just say it goes well very quickly.I mainly built it for a street car.
