May 2010 NJ noreaster pics

It wasn't what I would consider a noreaster, more like a northeast weather pattern. Still, it was impressive to those of us who were out there fishin.

Anyone has any pics or stories, feel free to post up.

The rollers were pretty bad and there was a building swell. The pics don't do it justice or give a true description of how intense it was. Every few minutes there was a rogue wave that was twice as large as the others and it was a little hairy.

To be honest, it wasn't half as bad as the conditions have been during the Montauk Noreasters. I had that in mind as guys were kind of looking at me sideways as I made my way out to the front. Regular Montauk guys would laugh at a swell like this.

I took a few headers and got knocked down and thrown back about 10 feet. Doesn't matter, it was still worth a shot out there. :fishing:

On that day no one wanted to fish the front of the jetty. I was the only one out there on the tip for an hour. It was prime time for the fish, 2nd hour of the outgoing, overcast, early morning, but no bass.

Then an hour after I started, "Jap" came out and started casting like a madman. :viking:He managed one blue, only the 2nd fish to be caught that moming.

The other blue was caught by Shark's friend, about a 1/2 hour before we got there.

Getting hit in the face with that water is a great wake up in the morning, makes you feel alive, no coffee needed. ;)

I didn't think you would be poking around in this thread, Pebbles.
Don't worry, I always fish the outgoing on a big swell like that, wait about an hour to see the pattern and the swells as the tide goes out, and brace myself for the fall.

If I fell in, the blubber in my belly would keep me floating until I grabbed onto a rock, just like a fat sea lion. ;)

There's a PSA in here about being careful during a swell like this. I always count the sets, but a swell like this will be different. You never know when a rogue wave will come to ruin your count and crash over your head, you have to be diligent in watching for them. I got knocked down by one a few minutes before I shot this.

Safety first, no fish is worth risking your life or taking unnecessary chances.

X2, that looks like a great place to be when the fish are there. Right on the edge. Great pics and videos.

Nice pics and video's dark, thanks for sharing. Maybe the next time it's rough you could have west wind wally give us a report right from the top of the jetty, but be careful not to fall in.:scared:
