Fishing Column: JCAA fluke tourney weighs in 10-pounder

By JOHN OSWALD • STAFF WRITER • June 14, 2010

The 16th Annual JCAA Fluke Tournament recorded its largest fish, a 10-pound summer flounder, at the Sandy Hook weigh-in port, one of 10 ports in the statewide tournament.

Caught by Tom Peter, East Brunswick, the fluke earned Peter $1,200 and a chance at the $10,000 grand prize awarded this Friday in Atlantic City.

Actually, Peter didn't have to catch a fish to be eligible. The only requirement to win the big prize is to be entered in the tournament and have a member of the boat's crew present when the winner is drawn.

In fact, 14 of the last 15 grand-prize winners did not weigh in a fluke that qualified for a port prize. More than 460 boats competed in this year's contest.

For more on the tournament, a complete list of winners, plus photos, pick up this Friday's Hook, Line & Sinker.
Anglers just fishing for fun did pretty well over the weekend as well.
