Pebbles and I went to the beach on Sun, so I decided to make a detour and visit Big John at Jack's B&T, City Island, on the way there.

I gotta tell ya's, Big John is the same guy you see in the videos. He's a little less hyper in person, but the same smile and in your face good old fashioned tackle shop talk, and fishin reports. The guy is 100% real, no BS. :thumbsup:

What you see is what you get. I had always wanted to meet the guy, and I wasn't disappointed. If you're in the area, they have great prices for all kinds of bait, clams, eels, worms, bunker.

And the late Mikey could attest to the fact that they had the freshest worms, and eels, in the whole frikkin area.

As we approach the end of summer the fishing season will start to pick up at a very fast pace with water temperatures cooling down and the fish will beginning to feed as they begin to move through and out of the area.

On the porgy front the last day to keep porgies from shore, private or rental will be Sunday Sept. 26th. The porgy fishing has been unbelieveable with fish being caught from Pea Island, The Antena, Huckleberry Island, Execution Lighthouse, along the shore lines of Mamaroneck and Rye and the points, Sands Point, Matinicock and Prospect Point. Best bait is Jack's jumbo sand and bloodworms, fresh clams and squid and remembering chumming is a must! The best depth of water is between 15 and 25 feet.

On the bluefish front for the past few weeks they have been catching blues to 15 pounds from Stepping Stone Lighthouse to Throggs Neck Bridge to behind Execution Lighthouse in the middle of the channel. Best bait Jack's fresh bunker, mackeral and also your can troll with surgical tubes and umbrella rigs to catch these big blues. Depth of water anywhere between 25-50 feet.

On the striped bass front as the water temperature begins to drop the striped bass will come back alive feeding along the shorelines with Jack's jumbo sands and fresh bunker. There have been alot of schooly bass being caught with some keepers mixed in, the size of these fish will increase as the days and weeks go by.

On the blackfish front the season will open Oct. 1st. We will have a full stock of fiddlers, green and Asian crabs, blackfish hooks and rigs and available immediately Jack's special blackfish jig. This jig will increase your catch by 50%. Remember to ask for Jack's Jig when your come in.

Boat rentals will be available through November.

On a final note...THE BEST FISHING IS UPON US for the next 90 days. Fall fishing is full of fish and tons of fun!

Remember: You can buy your Grundens in the shop or online throughout the year to keep you toasty and dry.

As we put the winter of 2010-11 behind us we have nothing but good weather and fishing in front of us. As of March 16th 2011 The striped bass season will open in the Hudson River north of the George Washington Bridge. Already there have been reports of fishermen catching and releasing striped bass by the Tappan Zee Bridge, Piermont Pier, Croton Park, and along the shores of Ossining and Tarrytown. There is only one bait that works this time of the year and that is of course Jack's Jumbo Bloodworms! You must be sure to ask for them by name no matter where you purchase your worms! Jack's Jumbo Bloodworms are sure catch bait every time! We have weighed in some of the biggest striped bass in past seasons caught on these worms. As the water temperature rises of course they will also be feeding on Jack's fresh bunker. Again make sure to ask for it by name! The store is fully stocked with the 2011 merchandise from rods and reels to hooks and rigs to line and sinkers. With all that is going on in the world there is no better time then now to get out and go fishing! Take a friend, Take a family member and make a day of it. Our store hours are now 8am to 6pm seven days a weeks and as the month progresses so will the business hours. The family at Jack's looks forward to seeing you here for all of your fishing needs.

As we begin the spring of 2011 the fishing season is also springing into full gear!

The striped bass in the Hudson River has started out with a bang. There are fish being caught from North of the George Washington Bridge to the Tappan Zee Bridge and as far as the Bear Mountain Bridge. The best bait is of course Jack's Jumbo Blood worms also bunker, herring, fresh clams and sand worms. These fish will be around feeding and spawning into late spring so make sure to take advantage and get out no matter what the weather is. Striped bass are on a time schedule so the weather does not affect them so don't let it affect you! Make sure anywhere you go to ask for Jack's Jumbo blood worms by name.

April 1st will start flounder fishing in the Long Island Sound. Sand worms, blood worms and plenty of chum are your best bet.

We will be renting Jack's motor boats starting April 1st at 6am. All prices have remained the same for boat rentals, bait and tackle.

As we move on into April, New York's striped bass season will open April 15th. Jack's will be stocked with fresh bunker, fresh clams, jumbo sand worms and blood worms and anything that the fishermen desires.

We have a lot to look forward to in this 2011 fishing season with some changes to sizes and bag limits of certain fish. Make sure to check in daily to get the up to date fishing regulations as we get them.

Hey How You Doing Out There In The Fishing World!?!

As we approach the biggest weekend of the unofficial start of summer the striped bass are invading the Long Island Sound. These fish are coming out of the Hudson, caught under the bridges and in the channels from the Stepping Stone Lighthouse to Execution Lighthouse and also in the harbors of Manhasset and Hempstead bays. The bunker have shown up in the backs of the harbors and the bass are chewing them up. These fish are in 20-40ft of water. I have weighed in fish from 20-30 pounds. Some stripers are being caught off the local shore lines also. There are a few cocktail blues mixed in too. I cannot emphasize enough that the more and harder you fish now the greater the results will be on catching these nice size striped bass.

The Porgy Season officially opens May 24th. These large fish are being caught way up in the Eastern Long Island Sound. The party boats have special RSA permits so they have been catching these fish for the past week. The Island Current is sailing daily at 8am for jumbo porgies and with the permit you can keep up to 40 fish per person.

We are carrying plenty of Jack's Famous Fresh Bunker and Jack's Jumbo Sand and Bloodworms as well as Jack's Famous homemade chum. Chumming is a must!

PS For the flounder enthusiasts the season is open until May 30th. Flounder are being caught along the shore with worms and mussels.

Here's his latest....

We are now in the infamous month of June, this is the month that everything comes together at one time in Long Island Sound.

On the striped bass front we are weighing in fish to 47 pounds-from private boats, rental boats and party boats,along the shoreline fish to at least 40 pounds are being caught. The best bait is of course Jack's fresh bunker, let me repeat Jacks fresh bunker these fish are in 20-50ft of water and are being caught from the Throggs Neck Bridge, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Hewlitt Point, Prospect Point, Fort Toten and behind Execution Lighthouse, by Buoy 42, both on the Long Island and the Connecticut sides, Mamaroneck, Rye and Port Chester are also doing very well.

There are bluefish mixed in with these bass from 2-10 pounds, remember to wait out the tide as fresh schools of fish are swimming through on every tide. For those fishermen who want to keep the fish around their boat make sure to use plenty of Jack's fresh ground bunker and clam chum.

On the porgy front the porgies are coming in in droves off of Prospect Point, Sands Point, Matinicock Point, Bayville, Oyster Bay and Smithtown Bay. There has been no problem on the party boats, private boats and rental boats catching your limit. Best bait Jack's jumbo sand worms and blood worms, fresh clams and squid, remember chumming is a must! These fish are being caught in 15-25ft of water.

As we get closer to the middle of June these fish will be all around this entire area.

On the fluke front we have been weighing in fish from 3-7 pounds. There are plenty of throw backs in the mix to make for great action, as the water temperature gets warmer the larger fluke will invade the Western Long Island Sound. These fish are being caught off Harts Island, the barges, the bridges and all the points, Prospect, Sands, Matinicock etc. Best bait is Jacks sure catch spearing, sand eels and squid combo on either a buck tail or one of Jacks famous fluke rigs. The depth of water 25-40ft while drifting the tide is best.

Due to the inclement weather we had this spring it has set up a great fishing season, keeping the water temperature just right so expect a fabulous fishing season. As the days progress make sure to take advantage of every day and get out and go fishing, remember a bad day fishing is always better than a good day at work!

The 2011 summer fishing season is officially here. The Western Long Island Sound experiences some of its best fishing at this time. We have a variety of fish starting with fluke. These fish can be caught around Hart's Island, Prospect Point, Sands Point, Matinicock Point, Bayville Beaches, Throggs Neck Bridge, The Barges, Hewlitt's Point, Eastchester Bay, The City Island Gas Dock, and just inside the channels by the City Island Bridge. The trick to catching these fish is to use buck tails, fluke rigs, spearing and squid combo, bunker filets-all of course Jack's Bait. Depth of water 20-50 feet. Big Tom is also a good area to drift for these fluke. The fluke season will continue through September 30th with 3 fish per person at 20 and a half inches. As the water warms the catch and the size will increase. Putting in the time will definitely increase your chances of catching those door mats.

On the striped bass front there are still fish up to 40 pounds being weighed in here at Jack's. They are catching these fish behind Execution Lighthouse on the Rye/Mamaroneck/Connecticut side of the Long Island Sound. They are fishing from 20-50 feet using nothing other than Jack's fresh bunker.

On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish from 8-12 pounds behind Execution Lighthouse in the middle of Long Island Sound from 20-40 feet of water. Best bait is Jack's fresh bunker. These fish are moving through daily and the trick is to anchor up and wait out the tide. The bluefish will continue to be in this area and get bigger as the summer progresses.

On the porgy front...They are running from the bluefish at this time and are a little further east in the Long Island Sound. As the bluefish move through and the porgies find their areas to hide they will move closer towards the western Long Island Sound. These fish are being caught in 10-20 feet of water using Jack's Jumbo sandworms and bloodworms also Jack's fresh skimmer clams and squid. Chumming is a must to keep these porgies around the boat. Best area Prospect Point, Sands Point, Matinicock Point, Bayville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye.

Take note in order to catch fish you must put in the time. The weather is beautiful, the fish are hungry and you should be too!

Jack's latest report.....

As we approach the hottest days of summer we also approach the hottest fishing of summer. August and September are two of the best months for great fluke fishing, blue fishing,porgy fishing and believe it or not striped bass fishing.

On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish in all of the harbors from little neck to Manhasset to Hempstead on the long island side and also on the Connecticut side from Larchmont to Mamaroneck to Rye. These bluefish are swimming into the sound chasing the bunker east. Even if you do not see the bunker the bluefish are on the bottom all you need is a chunk of Jack's fresh bunker to catch these blues.

On the striped bass front yesterday July 31st Captain Dan from the Island Current Fleet landed 5 keeper bass to 25 pounds and dropped a few very large fish. This says that the bass are difinately still here in the Western Long Island Sound. For both the blues and the bass Jack's fresh bunker, fresh mackeral, Jack's fresh clam and Jack's Jumbo sandworms are the best bait. Remember chumming is a must to keep the fish around your area!

PS Make sure to come in and sign up for the Greatest Bluefish Contest on Earth. All T-shirts and registration forms are here at Jack's. The contest is Aug. 27-28, 2011.

On the fluke front because of the tremendous amount of bluefish chewing up the bunker large schools of large fluke have invaded the Western Long Island Sound. These fish are being caught from the Whitestone and the Throggs Neck Bridges to all of the points east Hewlett Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point, Sands Point and also along the beaches of Bayville, Harts Island, The Blouses, Big Tom, by the City Island bridge, City Island gas dock and along the gravel barges. Best bait of course is Jack's Jumbo spearing and fresh cut sushi grade squid and strips of Jack's fresh bunker. All on fluke rigs, fluke hooks or buck tails. August are the two best months for fluke fishing. We have an extended season this year until the end of September.

So make sure to get out these next 60 days and fish hard for these fluke you may be rewarded with a 15 pounder.

On the porgy front the porgies have been dodging the bluefish for the past few weeks in the areas of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye also by Sands Point, Prospect Point and Execution Lighthouse. People have been catching their limit fishing in 15-25 feet of water using Jack's Jumbo sandworms, Jumbo bloodworms and Jack's fresh clams. Remember chumming is a must for porgies too.

So for the next 60 days Jack's advice is to fish hard, fish long for a fish on.

Jack's Bait is not a location it is a destination so make it yours!

Jack's latest, they extended the porgy season up there.....

We are now approaching the most productive fishing time of the year from now October 20th through November 30th the next 40 days will prove to be some of the best fishing around.

As the water temperature drops the different schools of fish begin to school up and migrate.

On the bluefish front they are catching fish to 15 pounds or better from the Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridges, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, and east behind Execution Lighthouse in water depths of 20 to 40 ft. Jack's fresh bunker is the best for these fish also fresh holy mackerel.

The striped bass are also being caught in the same areas as the bluefish with anchoring up and chumming with Jack's fresh clam chum and bunker chum is definitely the ticket. Bass are being caught from 15 inches to 52 inches from Battery Park east to Execution Lighthouse. These fish will stay around right till the end until it is either too windy or too cold to get to them. PS You should also try Jack's Jumbo bloodworms, sandworms, fresh clams and squid for these striped bass.

On the porgy front there are still monster porgies being caught on the party boats, the private boats and the rental boats. They are beginning to move east as it gets colder but there are still some nice fish to be caught thanks to the extension of the 2011 porgy season. Of course best bait is Jack's Jumbo sandworms, bloodworms and fresh clams. PS chumming is a must!

On the blackfish front as the water temperature drops these fish will turn on stronger and stronger each day. Depth of water 15-30 ft. As we get to the end of October and into November 30-80 ft will be the trick. Best areas are Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Hens and Chicken, David's Island, Red Buoy # 2, all the reefs from Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye and also a few deep holes behind Execution Lighthouse. Best Bait Jack's China-back fiddler crabs, Asian crabs and of course Jack's World Famous green crabs.

Make sure to try different ways of baiting the hook, different hooks and rigs that are available and also different techniques.

Remember Thanksgiving is 34 days away we need to fish on and fish hard every nice day you can get out do it!

Here is your fishing update:

Now that we are in the middle of May all species of fish seems to have turned on! Starting with the striped bass there are fish being caught to 45 pounds in the local areas from the Throgs Neck Bridge to the Stepping Stone Lighthouse to Execution Lighthouse, Hempstead Harbor, Manhasset Bay and on the Connecticut shorelines off of Rye, Mamaroneck, Larchmont and Greenwich. These fish are being caught in 20-40ft of water using Jack's Fresh Bunker, Jack's Jumbo Sandworms and Bloodworms and Jack's Special Chum. Remember chumming is a must! The bunker have invaded the Western Long Island Sound and the Bluefish are also mixed with with these striped bass. Bluefish 6-10 pounds are being caught anchored up in the middle of the sound behind Execution Lighthouse on chunks of bunker.

Believe it or not the flounder are still in the back of Eastchester Bay and Orchard Beach Lagoon with some fishermen catching the limits with no problem. Best bait Jack's Jumbo Sands and Jack's Jumbo Bloodworms and chumming is a must of course.

On the porgy front the porgies have moved in off all the points, Sands Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point, Rye and also behind Execution Lighthouse. These porgies are of the large variety with the limits now 20 fish per person make for a fun day. Best bait Jack's Jumbo Sands and Jumbo Bloodworms, fresh clams and of course chumming is a must to keep the fish around the boat.

The water temperatures are perfect or fishing and the weather this week will also be perfect for fishing so make sure and go fishing!

You can not catch fish sitting on a couch!

PS for the fluke enthusiasts they have also come into the western long island sound with fish to 5 pounds being caught off Sands Point, Prospect Point, Bayville, Hewlitt Point and by the barges and bridges. Best Bait spearing, squid and fresh bunker filets. Best depth of water 10-20 feet.

PSS this has been the first time in many years I have seen many species of fish being caught in the same areas at the same time.

Here is what is happening in our local~just in time for Father's Day fishing news.

Blues and stripers are being caught in Mamaroneck, by the Throgs Neck Bridge, by Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Execution Lighthouse, Buoys 32 and 42 and in Rye. The Best Bait is Jack's Fresh Bunker.

On the fluke front they are doing really well with fish up to 5 pounds being caught on Jack's Super squid and spearing by the bridges, barges, and all the points.

Porgies are being caught in the shallow waters by Prospect and Sands Point on Jack's Jumbo Blood and Sand worms.

Remember Chumming for all fish is a MUST!

Hey How you doing out there in the fishing world!?!

The summer of 2012 is definitely upon us especially with these hot temperatures. With the hot temperatures comes warmer water temperatures and that is great for fluke, porgies and bluefish!

On the bluefish front they are catching fish by the Throgs Neck Bridge, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Hempstead Harbor, Behind Execution Lighthouse, Along the shorelines from the Connecticut side beginning at Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye and as far east as Greenwich. Depth of water 15-30ft with some of the bigger bluefish caught in 40-50ft of water. Best bait is of course Jack's fresh bunker, mackeral and chumming is a must!

To keep the fish around your boat you must use chum, trust me on this one!

The night bite seems to be a little better than the day bite for both the bluefish and striped bass at this time.

On the fluke front they are catching fish at the Throgs Neck Bridge, the barges along the Throgs Neck Bridge, Big Tom, Eastchester Bay, the City Island gas dock, Hart's Island both the south and the north side, Gangeway Rock, Half Moon Beach, Sands Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point and further east in Bayville along the beaches and Oyster Bay. Best depth of water 15-25ft with larger fish being caught in 25-45ft of water. Best bait Jack's sure catch spearing, squid, and Jack's fresh bunker filets. Use any of these baits on Jack's fluke rigs or bucktails.

On the porgy front there are some people catching their limits of 20 porgies behind Execution Lighthouse, Prospect and Sands Point, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye, Pea Island and Huckleberry Island and the old CBS tower. Best bait is of course Jack's Jumbo sandworms and bloodworms. Also Jack's fresh skimmer clams. Note for those that like squid it will also work. We have a variety of different squids in stock. As always especially for porgies, Chumming is a must!

Depth of water 10-20ft the shallower the better if you go deeper and find some structure you may also catch sea bass.

I have heard of a few reports of Weak Fish being caught off of the local points Prospect, Sands, Matinicock. Best bait is of course Jack's Jumbo sandworms. Best depth of water 20-30ft.

Right now the Bluefish are moving back into local waters with more being caught at night by Execution Lighthouse and out in the middle of the Long Island Sound on the bottom. Jack's Fresh bunker and chum in 20-40ft of water is the best bet.

Porgies are also being caught by Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Hen and Chicken, Prospect and Sands Points in 10-20ft of water. Best bait is Jack's Jumbo Sand and Blood Worms. Chumming is a must.

On the Fluke front are being caught by Prospect and Sands Points, Matinicock, Pea Island and Eastchester Bay. Best catch is done drifting in 10-20ft of water using Jack's Sure Catch spearing, squid and bucktails.

It is a Snapper Haven out there right now with lures, snapper poppers and Jack's Sure Catch Spearing as the best bait and tackle.

Now that we are coming to the end of the 2012 summer season we can look forward to some of the best fishing of the year! The fall is when all of the different species of fish come together and begin to feed for their long journey east.

So on the fishing fronts...

Fluke~The season remains open till September 30th. They are catching fluke in 20-50 feet of water on spearing, squid strips, Jack's Fresh Bunker and live snapper. The best areas are in the channels between Harts Island, High Island, Prospect and Sands Points and in between the Throggs Neck and Whitestone Bridges.

Bluefish~Alligator Blues have moved in! Reports of 10-15 pound fish are being caught anywhere out in the middle especially behind Execution Lighthouse. The best bait is Jack's Fresh Bunker and Mackeral. These blues will stay around for at least 2 more months because water temperatures are getting lower.

Striped Bass~They have been catching some schoolys in shallow water with Jack's Jumbo Sand and Blood worms AND Jack's Fresh Bunker. The best spots are Harts Island, High Island and The CBS antenna.

Porgy~ They are catching nice size fish in 20-30ft of water with some fish being caught in 10ft of water. The best baits are Jack's Jumbo Sand and Blood worms and Jack's Sure Catch Clams. The best areas are Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, David's Island and Hens and Chicken. The areas these fish are being caught is Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Sands,Prospect, and Matinicock Points as well as further east.

With the water temperature as warm as they are the porgies, blues, weak and all other species will be around for a long time.

Remember~This is definitely the best time of year to fish! The weather is beautiful, the water temperatures are just right and the fish are hungry. Don't waste another day inside! Get Out And Go Fishing!

PS Blackfish Season opens October 8th and stays open until December 4th.

As of the date I posted this, those big blues have been around that area for a few weeks now. Guys in the Sound, who before lamented there is never much bunker, are saying the numbers of bunker are better than they have been in years.

That's what's bringing in the big blues, some keeper bass, and allowing them to hold in the Western Sound.

Some kayaker friends have been up there looking, but mostly schoolies for them. My interpretation of those results is I feel they would do better if they were targeting those blues exclusively at night from kayaks....

However, there are very few guys fishing the Sound at night in kayaks...have never run into another one on any of my night trips uip there....

Anyway, if things follow the regular fall migration, those big blues will follow the bunker down the E River and into the NY Bight. Generally speaking, blues that far West use the E River as a migration path rather than coming out through Montauk. That should prove to be great News for the guys fishing the NY Bight areas, especially Hudson River and SI...

This may turn out to be a very good fall.
It all depends on the weather and storms.
I speak about the bluefish because I have somewhat of an obsessive interest in these big blues. When the small bass dominate, I slow down my bass fishing and go out to target these big blues at night.

I, for one, am very excited about this. :drool:

The latest, Oct 16....

Hey How You Doin' Out There In The Fishing World!?!

As we approach the final six weeks of the 2012 fishing season everything seems to be happening at once.

On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish from 10 to 15 pounds and as big as 18 pounds. These fish are being caught from as far south as the FDR drive to as far east as Eatons Neck. Best bait is Jack's Fresh Bunker and Jack's Pacific Mackeral also chumming is must! You could also troll these fish with umbrella rigs, surgical tubes and bunker spoons. Best areas are behind Execution Lighthouse in 30 to 50 feet of water. You may get lucky and catch a striped bass also while trolling.

On the striped bass front there are some bass being weighed in at the shop up to 25 pounds. Best bait Jack's Fresh Bunker, Live Eels, Fresh Clams, Jack's Jumbo sand and blood worms and Jack's Sure Catch Squid. Best areas are anywhere along the shore line by Orchard Beach, Harts Island, Throggs Neck Bridge and The Whitestone Bridge.

On the blackfish front we are in peek season with fish being weighed in from 5 to 11 pounds. Best bait fiddler crabs, green crabs and Asian crabs. Best areas are Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Hens and Chicken, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye. Depth of water 20 to 30 feet.,

On The Porgy front the larger fish have moved way to the east leaving behind the little ones and very few of them. Best bait Jack's Jumbo Sand and Blood worms and Chumming is a Must!
