DEP Barnegat Bay hearing coming up Friday

DEP TO HOLD THIRD PUBLIC STAKEHOLDERS SESSION ON BARNEGAT BAY

TRENTON - On Friday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Department of Environmental Protection will hold the third of three Barnegat Bay Stakeholders' sessions at the Toms River Municipal Building, 33 Washington Street, Toms River.


This session will include a facilitated discussion to identify problems, causes, goals and actions needed to address Barnegat Bay concerns, while also looking at the degree of difficulty or costs associated with proposed actions

Discussion questions will be:
1. What is wrong with/what are the problems with Barnegat Bay?
2. What is/are the cause(s) of these problems?
3. What should the Bay be or look like --what are the goals for Barnegat Bay?
4. What actions should be taken to achieve these goals?
5. What tradeoffs are you willing to make to provide solutions?

An inventory of research projects also will be provided. In an attempt to organize this information, the projects have been placed in the following 12 categories:
1. Developing Water Quality Targets
2. Recreation
3. Air Deposition
4. Storm Water
5. Fisheries/Shell Fisheries
6. Water Quality (Public Health)
7. Water Quality (Ecosystem)
8. Salinity/Hydrology
9. Nutrients/Dissolved Oxygen
10. Land Use
11. Industrial Use
12. Commercial

Information will be added to the inventory as it is shared with the department. The meeting will conclude with an explanation of next steps.
