A Brigantine man nearly drowned Tuesday when he fell out of his kayak in the bay near Little Rock and Winchester avenues in Ventnor, fire officials said. The man was kayaking at about 11:11 a.m. Tuesday when he fell into the water, said Chief Bert Sabo. Firefighters Jeff Moore and Chris Cooke went into the water to rescue him.
Two teenage girls, kayaking nearby, helped get the man to a dock, said Deputy Chief Ed Arentz. He was struggling to hold on to the dock when firefighters arrived.
Moore and Cooke put on life preservers and got the man to shallow water, to a point where he could climb a ladder to safety, Arentz said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was not wearing a life preserver, Arentz said.
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, city campus, and is expected to recover, Sabo said.
