Despite the tremendous difference in size, these two salmon are actually the same age. The larger one, however, had its growth accelerated via genetic engineering. The creators of the salmon hope that such fish will soon become the first genetically modified animals allowed to be sold as food. Sure to elicit responses from a number of activist groups, the 'super salmon' is currently under review by FDA. i can just see the frantic mothers rushing towards the shorebreak as another bluefish blitz hits the beach, churning the foam red as pieces of ripped diapers wash up on shore...from Squan to Hatteras...mothers screaming "johnny johnny come back! come back!"

What's it got to do with nature, it's fish farming?

Sounds promising, being how size and bag limits and quotas are all working so well to preserve the natural fisheries. :rolleyes:

People have been eating farm raised hybrid fish for years, what's the big deal?

Might actually be helpful if they feed the farm raised salmon fish pellets, i believe they'd require less food to attain the same size. Fewer bunker, sardines or herring required to feed the little salmons.

As far as screwing up the natural balance :laugh::laugh:can it get any more screwed up than it already is?

Now I don't know jack about freshwater fishing, but aren't those big largemouth bass they've been getting in castaic lake, crosses between southern and northern largemouth's and they've been fattening up on stocked fingerling trout provided by the taxpayers? Can't say that I've heard anyone complaining, cept maybe people that can't fish the lake.
