I can still remember it like it was yesterday. I hope my memory always stays green from that experience. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The uncertainty, terror, confusion, and sheer magnitude of the events was life-changing.

Beyond that, the determination, resourcefulness, and willingness of Americans to work together to fight terrorists that arose because of that was IMO one of the best lessons to come out of that decade.

I still have a poster on my front porch of a family who lost their daughter and was looking for her, hoping to find her alive. They never did.

There are many Americans whose lives were profoundly changed by that day, and some for whom life will never be the same. Condolences, thoughts and prayers to all those who were affected by this important day in American history.

May we never forget the lessons we learned that day, or forget how important it is to protect our country and citizens from those who would harm us due to their religious fanaticism. :learn:

As time passes on some of us tend to forget. I will never forget that day and the tragedy it caused. I watched the burning WTC building as someone called me after it happened, and hundreds of us stopped in the streets and watched in horror from 5 miles away.
It was the least I could do in the days after to collect medical supplies, and drive them to the distribution center and volunteer for a few days.

I mention this not to brinig attention to my efforts. Honestly, although I am glad to have made some contribution, I really don't think I did enough. I was inspired to do this by seeing the victims and their families on TV. At that point they were not victims yet, they were still "missing". Even so, when you heard the stories you had a sinking feeling in your heart that if they were missing, they were most likely dead.

**I mention this above, to maybe let some of the readers know, that you never know when it will be your time to help someone. You may not be called to help them directly. It may be something that happens, and something that pulls you, from inside, to go and help.
If and when you do feel this urge to help others, please pay attention to that feeling, and act on it. You won't regret doing so. :thumbsup:

My biggest sense of loss, was for the families who never found even a part of their relatives. They know they died, but without some piece of a body, I feel they were robbed from getting closure and trying to move on with their lives.

What you posted is not offensive Capt Nemo. It may be shocking but it is part of reality.
As you said, we should never forget that chapter in our History. Those who would negotiate with terrorists should review the videos out there, and ask themselves what lengths they are willing to go, to keep their own families safe from harm and terroristic acts.

This was a terrible tragedy for many. There are very few on the East Coast whose lives weren't touched by knowing someone, or a friend of a friend, of a friend, who was affected by this.

My heart goes out to all of the survivors and their families. Many young children had to grow up without a father or mother.....:(

One thiing I remember in that period was it was the first time in ages when Americans worked together as a power greater than the individual, to defeat a threat......
I think with some of the Apathy I have seen in the last 10 years, some of us have lost sight of that...
I don't want to take anything away from that terrible tragedy, or it's victims.....but that sense of community that we gained back then.....I sure wish there was some way we could find our way back to that....as individuals....many of who are too busy now in their day to day lives....to think of others....

It feels like only yesterday...I was in the 8th grade going to school in Kearny. We had a clear view of the towers & NYC skyline from the top of the town.

How I can watch these videos now and actually understand the disaster that this was...

My family was there the Saturday before the towers were attacked. We wanted to go to the top but didn't because the other family we were with didn't want to wait in the long line. We had plans to go back on my birthday and go to the top (9/14).

Live life to the fullest and do what you enjoy now because if you wait it may be too late.

I have been busy and haven't had much time to post. I wanted to thank you all for posting your memories and thoughts.

I can still remember that day. It will probably stand out in my mind as long as I live. We were working in Kearny. Someone called and told me about the towers being hit. I thought they were playing a joke on me...until I stopped the truck and saw the towers burning........and the 2nd plane hit as well.....

It was a horrendous sight.....one that will be forever imprinted in my brain...
In the weeks after, I tried to do what I could to help...but my efforts paled in comparison to what some out there did...they put themselves in grave health risk to search for the survivors and help identify the victims' bodies.....

14 years later, it seems like a long time ago ....To some of us it may seem like a distant memory...
I was just telling a friend the other day...that in the year after that happened.....I sensed I was living in a new America....I was meeting people from all races and cultures that had a renewed sense of American Pride....
It was a sad time for our country and the families of the victims....
also a time when a lot of us took stock at how much we appreciated the opportunity to live in America today.........

The recent troubles on the other side of the world, the mass exodus out of Syria...that extremely sad picture of the 3 year old boy who washed up on that beach...with his 5 year old brother, and Mother, drowning as well......have hit home with me...

There is great sadness in the world....which most of us don't often get a chance to hear about....we take living in the US for granted....
We take our safety for granted...
We take our living conditions for granted...
We assume that all the things we have today....we will have tomorrow....
We take our soldiers for granted...although every week there are young kids..... US citizens, fresh out of boot camp...being killed in foreign countries......

So it's refreshing to me....that some of ya's took the time out to remember....
what is sometimes so easy to forget......

We are very fortunate to live where we do....
Boundless opportunities for families, safety, and a future....
As mentioned.... our freedom isn't Free.....the blood of our citizens pays for part of it.....
